Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Mikrofy Mikrolaser ML-2 Series — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 7.2V 1500mAh (10.8Wh) Ni-MH replacement battery for the Mikrofy Mikrolaser ML-2 laser level. It fits the ML-2, ML-2H, ML-3, ML-4, and over ten additional Mikrolaser models that share the same battery format and voltage rail. Capacity figure is from product data — 1500mAh.

  • ML-2 series compatibility: The ML-2, ML-2H, ML-3, and ML-4 all draw from the same 7.2V Ni-MH pack. Shared connector pinout and BMS handshake mean one battery services the full lineup without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the ML-2's laser drive circuit and motor pendulum mechanism. The BMS held steady across repeated cold-start draws with no false cutoffs.
  • Laser level storage protocol: Ni-MH cells left sitting at full charge inside the ML-2's enclosed housing accelerate voltage depression. If the unit is going into storage for more than two weeks, discharge to around 40% before shelving — this chemistry holds partial charge far better than it holds full charge over time.

Charger blinking red on a new ML-2 pack after storage

Ni-MH packs that have been sitting can drop below the charger's acceptance threshold — typically under 5V for a 7.2V pack. Most Mikrolaser chargers will flash red and refuse to initiate a full charge cycle when they detect this. The fix is a short conditioning charge: some chargers have a recovery mode; if yours does not, try a different charger that accepts low-voltage packs. Once the cell voltage climbs above 6V, the original charger should recognise the pack and proceed normally.

ML-2 laser line dims or flickers under load mid-use

Flickering laser output on the ML-2 is almost always voltage sag — not a laser diode fault. When the pendulum motor and laser diode draw simultaneously, a degraded or cold cell can't sustain the rail voltage, and the diode dims or cuts briefly. Check the battery contact rails inside the compartment for oxidation; corroded contacts add resistance that amplifies sag. Clean contacts with a pencil eraser, reseat the pack, and confirm the resting voltage reads at least 7.0V before use.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Mikrolaser ML-2 charger keeps blinking red and never starts charging — is the battery dead?

Not necessarily. Ni-MH packs that have self-discharged below roughly 5V will trigger a red-blink refusal on most Mikrolaser chargers. This is the charger rejecting a low-voltage pack, not confirming a dead cell. Try a charger with a low-voltage recovery or conditioning mode to bring the pack back above 6V. Once it crosses that threshold, reinsert into your standard charger and it should accept the charge cycle normally.

The ML-2 laser line starts strong but gets noticeably weaker after a few minutes of use — what's happening?

This is voltage sag under sustained dual load from the pendulum motor and the laser diode running together. Ni-MH cells that have been shallow-cycled repeatedly lose their ability to hold the rail voltage under that combined draw. Check that the battery compartment contacts are clean and making firm contact — oxidation multiplies the sag. If contacts are clean and the problem persists, the cells have capacity-faded and the pack needs replacing.

The ML-2 powers on but the self-levelling pendulum stops moving and the unit beeps — is this a battery issue?

Yes, this is typically the pendulum motor stalling due to insufficient voltage from a depleted or degraded pack. The ML-2's pendulum motor pulls a brief inrush current spike on startup; if the battery can't sustain the voltage through that spike, the unit registers a levelling fault and alerts. Measure the pack's resting voltage — it should sit at or above 7.0V. Anything below 6.5V under light load means the cells can no longer deliver the current the motor needs at startup.
