Fits Skil HD3736 drill-driver; replaces OEM part 92931 directly.
12V 2100mAh Ni-MH pack delivers adequate torque for fastening and light drilling without voltage sag on trigger pull.
Slides onto standard Skil 12V battery slot; connector orientation keyed; locking tab seats flush on tool housing.
Bench testing confirms BMS accepts charge current without fault codes; cell voltage stabilizes within two hours on standard charger.
On first use, run the drill at half throttle for two cycles before maximum torque fastening — lets the BMS profile motor inrush before locking overcurrent thresholds.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Skil HD3736 — 12V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (92931)

This is a 12V 2100mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Skil HD3736 cordless drill/driver. It uses OEM part number 92931 and slots directly into the HD3736 battery bay. Voltage and capacity match the original pack spec.

  • HD3736 platform fit: The HD3736 runs a 12V Ni-MH rail with a proprietary latch-and-contact housing. This pack matches that connector geometry and cell voltage, so the tool's trigger circuit sees the correct supply voltage from the first pull.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack on the HD3736 platform under repeated start-load sequences. The BMS held stable through motor-start inrush current spikes and returned to nominal cell voltage within the expected recovery window after each load drop.
  • Break-in on the HD3736: Run the drill at half load — light drilling, no high-torque fastening — for the first two charge cycles. Ni-MH cells need those cycles to equalise across the pack before the BMS can accurately set its overcurrent thresholds for motor-start inrush.

BMS cutoff on motor-start inrush in the HD3736

The HD3736 motor draws a sharp current spike the instant the trigger is pulled — this inrush can be three to four times the steady running current. On a new or storage-discharged pack, the BMS has no inrush profile logged and may trip the overcurrent threshold as a precaution. Running two break-in cycles at partial load lets the BMS calibrate its current window to the motor's actual start signature. After that, full-load trigger pulls clear without nuisance trips.

Charger not recognising the pack after storage

Ni-MH packs that have sat unused can self-discharge below the charger's acceptance threshold — typically under 10V on a 12V pack — causing the charger to blink an error or do nothing at all. The fix is a recovery charge: some Skil chargers include a conditioning mode; if yours does not, a compatible Ni-MH charger with a trickle or reconditioning function can bring the pack back above the acceptance floor. Once cell voltage climbs above roughly 10.5V, the charger should recognise the pack and begin a normal charge cycle. Do not leave the pack on trickle for more than 12 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

My HD3736 cuts out the instant I pull the trigger on hard materials — is this the battery or the motor?

That's a BMS overcurrent trip, not a motor fault. The motor-start inrush spike on the HD3736 exceeds the BMS overcurrent threshold when the pack is new or hasn't been cycled. Run two break-in cycles at light load — soft wood drilling, no screwdriving — before full-torque use. After two cycles the BMS profiles the inrush and stops tripping.

The drill feels weak and bogs down halfway through a hole, but the battery shows charged — what's happening?

That's voltage sag — cell voltage drops under sustained load even though the resting voltage looks fine. Check the contact rails on the battery bay and the pack terminals for oxidation; Ni-MH packs are sensitive to contact resistance. Clean both contact surfaces with a dry cloth or fine emery paper, then re-seat the pack firmly. If sag continues after cleaning, the cells may need a full conditioning cycle to recover capacity.

My HD3736's battery lost charge capacity after months of only doing short jobs — why?

Ni-MH cells degrade faster with repeated shallow cycling — charging after only light use prevents the cells from reaching a full discharge depth. Over time the pack loses the ability to hold a full charge, a condition called voltage depression. To reverse mild cases, run three full discharge-recharge cycles: use the drill until it slows noticeably, then charge completely before using again. This re-establishes full cell depth and restores usable capacity.
