Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Skil HD3736 — 12V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (92931)
This is a 12V 3300mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Skil HD3736 cordless drill/driver. It replaces OEM part number 92931 and fits directly into the HD3736's battery bay. Voltage, connector, and terminal layout match the original pack.
- HD3736 platform fit: The HD3736 runs a 12V Ni-MH chemistry with a specific terminal configuration and slide-in latch. This pack matches that voltage rail and connector — the BMS on the tool's motor driver will see the same signal envelope as the factory pack.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated trigger-pull sequences on the HD3736 platform, including high-inrush drilling starts. The BMS held steady across cold and warm start conditions without nuisance tripping.
- First-use load conditioning for the HD3736: On first use, run the drill at half load — light driving, not drilling — for two cycles before applying maximum torque. This allows the tool's overcurrent protection to profile the inrush signature before heavy fastening starts.
BMS cutoff on the HD3736 motor-start inrush surge
When you pull the trigger hard on a cold pack, the motor draws a spike of current in the first 50–100ms that can exceed the BMS overcurrent threshold. On Ni-MH packs that have been sitting discharged, internal resistance is elevated — this makes the voltage sag deeper and the current spike sharper. The BMS reads that as a fault and cuts the output. Letting the pack warm up to room temperature before heavy use keeps internal resistance low enough that the inrush spike stays within the BMS window.
Charger not recognising the HD3736 pack after storage
Ni-MH packs self-discharge during storage — if a pack sits long enough, cell voltage can drop below the charger's acceptance threshold. The Skil charger checks for a minimum voltage before initiating the charge cycle; if it sees less than roughly 1.0V per cell, it may refuse to start or show a fault blink. To recover the pack, use a charger with a reconditioning or trickle-start mode that can push a low current at 100mA until cell voltage climbs above the acceptance floor. Once the pack reaches that threshold, normal fast charging resumes.

Frequently Asked Questions
My HD3736 cuts out the moment I pull the trigger hard — why does a new battery do this?
That cutout is the BMS tripping on motor-start inrush current, not a faulty battery. When the drill motor starts under load, it draws a sharp current spike that a cold or freshly installed Ni-MH pack handles less smoothly because internal resistance is still elevated. Squeeze the trigger gently for the first few trigger pulls to let the pack warm up and internal resistance drop. After two or three light cycles, full-trigger starts will stop tripping the cutoff.
The drill feels weak and bogs down mid-screw even with a new pack — what's causing that?
Voltage sag under load is the likely cause, and it usually traces back to the contact rail between the battery and tool. Corroded or dirty terminal contacts add resistance, which causes the voltage to sag sharply the moment the motor draws hard current. Clean the battery terminals and the tool's contact rails with a pencil eraser or fine abrasive, then retest. If sag continues, check that the pack is sliding fully home and the latch is engaging — a partially seated pack increases contact resistance significantly.
The HD3736 pack loses charge fast even after a full charge — is this normal break-in or real capacity loss?
On Ni-MH packs, repeated shallow cycling — charging after only light use — causes voltage depression, sometimes called the memory effect, which reduces the usable capacity the charger targets. Run the pack down fully through normal drilling and driving use before recharging, rather than topping it off after short sessions. Two to three full discharge-recharge cycles usually restore the pack to its rated 3300mAh capacity. If capacity stays low after three full cycles, the cells have degraded and the pack needs replacing.
