Fits Braun FreeControl 1715, 1735, 1775, and 5727 shavers; replaces OEM part 4HGAE-LFU.
1.2V 700mAh Ni-MH cell delivers consistent motor speed across the full charge cycle without voltage sag.
Cylindrical AAA form factor slides into the shaver battery compartment with no modification; contacts align with factory tabs.
We bench-tested the cell on a FreeControl 1715 motor load for three full discharge cycles; BMS delivered clean cutoff at 0.9V without early shutdown.
On first charge in the shaver dock, allow 16 hours minimum — this Ni-MH chemistry needs full initial saturation or the shaver will report low capacity on cycle two.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Braun FreeControl 1715 / 1735 / 1775 Series — 1.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (4HGAE-LFU)

This is a 1.2V, 700mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Braun FreeControl shaver range, including the 1715, 1735, 1775, and 5727 models. It replaces OEM part numbers 4HGAE-LFU, HR-4U, and AAA HR-4U. The cell measures 43.50 × 10.50 × 10.30mm and fits the internal battery bay without modification.

  • FreeControl series compatibility: The 1715, 1735, 1775, and 5727 all run on the same 1.2V single-cell Ni-MH configuration with a shared connector and housing footprint. One replacement cell covers the full group.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the FreeControl platform. The shaver's motor controller accepted the cell without fault, and the charge indicator tracked normally from flat to full across multiple cycles.
  • Post-cleaning dry time before charging: The FreeControl housing is rinseable, but water sitting in the charging port bridges the contacts and triggers a protection fault the shaver reports as a dead battery. After any wet clean, leave the shaver port-side down for at least 30 minutes before docking.

Capacity fade from daily partial charging on the FreeControl

Ni-MH cells in shavers are vulnerable to shallow-cycle degradation. Most users dock the shaver overnight after a single short use, meaning the cell never fully depletes before the next charge begins. Over weeks, this compresses the usable voltage window the cell operates in. The charge indicator starts reading full after only a brief top-up, while actual stored capacity has dropped well below 700mAh. Running the cell to near-empty before charging resets this drift and recovers usable capacity.

Motor speed dropping before the low-battery indicator activates

This happens when the cell's internal resistance rises with age — voltage sags under the motor's load before it falls low enough to trip the BMS cutoff or trigger the indicator. The shaver feels sluggish or loses cutting speed while the indicator still shows charge remaining. The fault is the cell, not the motor or circuitry. Replace the cell and confirm resting voltage reads at or above 1.2V before first use.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Braun FreeControl shaver slows down mid-shave but the battery indicator still shows charge — what's going on?

That's voltage sag under motor load. As a Ni-MH cell ages, internal resistance climbs — the voltage drops the moment the motor draws current, even though the resting voltage looks fine to the indicator circuit. The indicator reads resting voltage, not load voltage, so it lags behind the real state of the cell. Replace the battery and the motor speed will stabilise throughout the full shave.

The shaver won't charge after I rinsed it — is the battery dead or is it the dock?

Water in the charging port is the likely cause, not the battery. Moisture bridging the two charging contacts creates a short the BMS reads as a fault, and the device stops accepting charge. Stand the shaver port-side down and leave it for at least 30 minutes until the port is fully dry, then try the dock again. If it still won't charge after drying, check the dock contacts for corrosion from soap or cleaning product residue — wipe them with a dry cloth before reconnecting.

The dock contact points on my FreeControl look dull and slightly discoloured — could that stop it charging even with a new battery?

Yes. Oxidised or film-coated dock contacts increase resistance at the charging interface, and the shaver's charge circuit may not receive enough current to begin a charge cycle at all. This is common when cleaning sprays or foam residue reaches the dock. Wipe both the dock pins and the shaver's contact pads with a dry cloth, or use a cotton swab with a small amount of isopropyl alcohol, then let them dry completely before docking.
