Fits Wella Xpert HS70 shaver; replaces OEM part HR-AAAU and 1520902.
3.6V and 700mAh capacity restore full motor torque and sustained cutting performance throughout a grooming session.
Connector slides straight into the battery slot with a single locking tab; no rotation needed during install.
We bench-tested the HR-AAAU on a motor load simulator; BMS held voltage steady through discharge, no early cutoff observed.
On first charge after install, run the shaver against the grain for one full cycle before switching to normal use — the Ni-MH BMS needs load contact to calibrate the fuel gauge.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Wella Xpert HS70 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (HR-AAAU)

This is a 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Wella Xpert HS70 cordless hair clipper. It replaces OEM part HR-AAAU (also listed as 1520902) and fits directly into the HS70 housing. Swap it in when the original cell no longer holds a useful charge.

  • Xpert HS70 fit: The HS70 runs a single 3.6V Ni-MH cell in a cylindrical housing — the HR-AAAU form factor matches that slot exactly, including the solder tab orientation and cell diameter (19.70mm). No modifications needed.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the HS70 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, and the motor drew current normally across the full discharge curve from 4.2V down to the low-voltage cutoff.
  • Ni-MH cycle conditioning on the HS70: New Ni-MH cells in this shaver often show reduced output for the first two to three full charge-discharge cycles. Run the shaver until the motor noticeably slows, then charge fully — repeat this twice before judging actual capacity.

Capacity fade from daily partial charging on the HS70

Ni-MH cells in shavers like the HS70 are vulnerable to voltage depression when they are regularly topped up before full depletion. Each partial cycle trains the cell to report a lower capacity to the onboard circuit, so the shaver cuts out earlier than it should. This effect is reversible on a fresh replacement cell — but only if you avoid repeating the same shallow-cycle habit. Once the new cell is installed, allow full discharges before returning it to the dock.

Shaver motor speed drops mid-use but the indicator still shows charge remaining

This happens when internal cell resistance rises — voltage sags under motor load even though the resting voltage still reads as acceptable to the indicator circuit. The indicator in the HS70 reads resting voltage, not load voltage, so a fatigued cell can fool it. Under the brief current spike of the motor, the terminal voltage collapses below the motor's operating threshold and speed drops. Replacing the cell resolves this — a fresh HR-AAAU at full charge holds above 3.6V under motor load.

Frequently Asked Questions

My HS70 shaver slows down halfway through a trim even though the battery indicator is still showing charge — what's happening?

The HS70's indicator reads resting cell voltage, not voltage under motor load. When internal resistance climbs in an ageing Ni-MH cell, the terminal voltage sags the moment the motor draws current — the indicator never catches it. The motor loses speed because it's not getting enough voltage to maintain torque, even though the cell looks fine at rest. Replacing the HR-AAAU cell clears this; a healthy cell holds above 3.6V under load.

The HS70 stopped charging after I rinsed it under the tap — is the battery dead or is it something else?

Water trapped at the charging contacts bridges them and triggers a BMS protection fault — the device reports no charge activity, which looks like a dead battery but usually isn't. Remove the battery and let the charging port dry completely for at least 24 hours before reconnecting power. Once dry, reinsert the battery and place the shaver back on charge; if the fault was moisture-related, charging resumes normally. If it still won't charge after full drying, the contacts themselves may be corroded and need inspection before fitting a new cell.

The dock contacts on my HS70 look clean but the shaver still won't charge — could oxidisation be the issue?

Cleaning products and grooming sprays leave a thin residue on charging contacts that isn't visible but is enough to break the connection. Wipe both the dock pins and the shaver's charge contacts with a dry cotton swab, then try a 90% isopropyl alcohol wipe if the swab alone doesn't shift it. Let the contacts dry fully before docking. If charge still doesn't initiate, check that the dock pins spring back freely — a stuck pin makes no contact regardless of battery condition.
