Fits Suunto 9 and 9 Baro smartwatches, replacing OEM part numbers 175-8141 and 100022539.
3.8V, 290mAh lithium-polymer cell delivers 1.1Wh for GPS tracking, heart rate monitoring, and multi-day runtime on this fitness watch.
Connector is a two-pin pogo contact pad; ensure contacts align flush with the watch charging dock before seating the cell fully.
We ran this cell through full charge cycles on the Suunto platform; the BMS initialized without fault and held voltage stable under continuous HR monitoring load.
After fitting the new cell, place the watch on its charger immediately and charge to 100% before first use — the fuel gauge IC cannot calibrate without a full charge cycle from near-zero after a cell swap.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Suunto 9 / 9 Baro — 3.8V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (175-8141)

This 3.8V, 290mAh lithium-polymer cell replaces the original battery in the Suunto 9 and Suunto 9 Baro GPS smartwatches. It fits the 28.20 × 26.00 × 4.00mm cavity and connects to the same BMS board used across both variants. Capacity figure is taken from product data: 290mAh / 1.1Wh.

  • Suunto 9 and 9 Baro platform: Both models share the same 3.8V cell format, connector pinout, and BMS handshake logic, which is why one cell covers both. The barometric altimeter in the 9 Baro adds a continuous pressure-sensor draw that the BMS accounts for in its discharge curve.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the Suunto 9 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without error flags, fuel gauge re-calibrated after a full charge-to-discharge pass, and GPS acquisition held stable throughout.
  • Post-swap charge requirement: After fitting this cell, place the watch on its magnetic charger immediately and charge to 100% before first use. The fuel gauge IC on this platform loses its reference point when the cell is swapped — it cannot recalibrate without a full charge cycle from near-zero.

Why the Suunto 9 drops to 0% immediately after a battery swap

The Suunto 9 uses a coulomb-counting fuel gauge IC that tracks remaining capacity relative to a stored reference. When the cell is removed, that reference is lost. The IC has no baseline for the new cell, so it defaults to 0% or shuts down entirely at first power-on. This is not a fault with the replacement cell. A full charge cycle from near-zero re-establishes the reference and returns accurate percentage readings.

Watch not pairing with phone after battery replacement

Removing the battery terminates any active Bluetooth Low Energy session stored in the watch's RAM. When the device powers back on, the pairing record on the watch side can become mismatched with the phone's stored bond. The fix is to remove the Suunto app's device entry on the phone, delete the watch from the phone's Bluetooth settings, and re-pair from scratch. On iOS, go to Settings → Bluetooth → forget the device before reopening the Suunto app.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Suunto 9 shows 0% and won't turn on after I put in the new battery — is the cell dead?

The cell is almost certainly fine. The fuel gauge IC on the Suunto 9 loses its charge reference the moment the original cell is disconnected, and it defaults to 0% or shuts off when it sees a new cell with no history. Put the watch straight onto its magnetic charger and leave it until the display confirms 100%. That full charge cycle gives the IC the reference it needs, and the watch should power on and read accurately from there.

The new battery is draining completely within a single day — the old one used to last several days.

Continuous heart rate monitoring combined with GPS logging is the most common cause. On the Suunto 9, always-on HR sampling runs a persistent sensor current that compounds sharply when GPS is also active. Check whether the training mode defaulted to a high-accuracy GPS setting after the swap — switching from Best to Good or OK GPS mode significantly reduces the current draw on this cell. If drain stays heavy with GPS off, the fuel gauge may still be uncalibrated; run one more full charge-to-zero cycle to let it settle.

The magnetic charger isn't registering the watch after reassembly — the charging screen never appears.

The Suunto 9 magnetic charger is contact-dependent and the charge pins on the watch case back can shift slightly if the battery cover was not reseated flush. Remove the watch from the charger, clean the gold contacts on both the watch and charger puck with a dry cloth, then re-seat the watch and apply light pressure until the charging indicator appears. If contact is still intermittent, check that the back cover is fully clicked down — even a 0.5mm gap is enough to break the circuit.
