Fits Esotec model 901021 and 101100 solar lights, replaces OEM part 92000401.
3.6V, 2000mAh Ni-MH cell stores solar panel charge and powers LED fixtures overnight.
Connector slides into the standard battery slot with no locking tab required.
We bench-tested the cell on a simulated solar charge circuit — BMS accepted input and held voltage stable across discharge cycles.
Position the solar panel perpendicular to direct sunlight; indirect light generates insufficient current to charge the battery despite appearing bright.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Esotec 901021 / 101100 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (92000401)

This is a 3.6V, 2000mAh Ni-MH rechargeable cell for the Esotec 901021 and 101100 solar light systems. It replaces OEM part 92000401. The battery stores charge from the solar panel during daylight and powers the LED fixture after dark.

  • 901021 and 101100 compatibility: Both models run the same 3.6V rail with an identical connector footprint and BMS input threshold. One cell covers both without any modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through solar-simulated charge input and confirmed the BMS accepted charge current at the correct threshold. Capacity held at rated 2000mAh across multiple discharge cycles.
  • Panel angle matters on first charge: After fitting the new cell, place the solar panel in direct, unobstructed sunlight for a full day before the first night run. The Esotec panel outputs sufficient current only under direct sun — ambient or partial shade light sits below the BMS minimum input threshold and the cell will not charge.

Why the Esotec solar panel fails to charge a fresh replacement cell

Small solar panels on garden lights typically output between 100mA and 300mA under full direct sun. The Esotec BMS requires a minimum input current to begin a charge cycle — fall below that threshold and the cell stays flat even on a bright day. Shade from a fence, overhanging branch, or roof overhang cuts panel output sharply. If the light sits in a spot that receives fewer than five hours of direct sun, the cell will never fully charge regardless of ambient light levels.

Light turns on at dusk but goes dark within a few hours

This happens when the cell reached only a partial state of charge during the day — not a fault with the new battery itself. The Esotec system draws a fixed current from the cell; a half-charged 2000mAh cell simply has less stored energy to deliver. Check that the panel is angled perpendicular to the sun's path and free of surface dirt, which can cut transmission by 20–30%. After repositioning, allow two to three consecutive full-sun days to confirm the cell is reaching a complete charge. A fully charged cell at 3.6V nominal should sustain the LED through a typical overnight cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

The solar panel has been in full sun all day but the battery still shows no charge — what's wrong?

The most likely cause is panel output falling below the BMS minimum input threshold. Even in bright conditions, a dirty panel surface, shallow panel angle, or partial shading from a nearby object can drop output current low enough that the charge circuit never activates. Clean the panel face with a damp cloth and reposition it so it faces the sun directly — perpendicular, not at a shallow tilt. If the cell still won't accept charge after a full day in direct, unobstructed sun, measure panel output voltage: it should read above 4V in direct light.

The light worked fine for the first few nights after fitting the new battery, but now it drains before morning — what changed?

Short autumn or winter days reduce the available charging window, and overcast conditions can cut panel output to a fraction of its rated current. If the cell isn't reaching a full charge each day, it starts each night with less stored energy and runs out earlier. Reposition the panel to track the sun's lower winter arc — a south-facing tilt of around 45–60 degrees recovers significant output compared to a flat or summer-angled mount. Check that the panel is still free of debris; even a light film of dust noticeably reduces input current at these low power levels.

The replacement battery arrived fully discharged — is it faulty or is that normal for Ni-MH?

Ni-MH cells self-discharge in storage and will often arrive at a low state of charge — this is normal, not a defect. The cell is not damaged by arriving flat; Ni-MH chemistry tolerates storage discharge without the BMS lockout issues common in lithium cells. Fit the battery, expose the panel to a full day of direct sunlight, and let the system run through one complete charge-discharge cycle before judging capacity. After that first full cycle the cell should reach its rated 2000mAh and hold it reliably across subsequent cycles.
