Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sunforce 80 Led Solar Motion Light — 6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (SM2P-5SW)
This is a 6V 1500mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Sunforce 80 Led Solar Motion Light. It stores the charge collected by the solar panel during daylight and powers the LED array and motion sensor after dark. Fits the 45, 60, and 80 Motion Light models that use the SM2P-5SW cell.
- 45, 60, and 80 Motion Light compatibility: These three Sunforce models share the same 6V battery rail, connector footprint, and BMS input threshold. One cell fits all three because the charging circuit and cut-off voltage are identical across the range.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through solar-input charge conditions and confirmed the BMS accepted the charge curve without false cut-off. The cell held voltage through a full simulated overnight discharge at rated load.
- Solar panel positioning matters on this unit: Position the panel perpendicular to direct sunlight. The Sunforce solar circuit requires a minimum input current to overcome the BMS threshold — indirect or partially shaded light can fall below that floor, and the battery will not charge even when ambient light appears bright.
Why the Sunforce motion light goes dark after only a few hours
Ni-MH cells in solar lights degrade through shallow cycling — the panel partially charges the cell each day, then the light draws it down each night. Over time, capacity drops while the cell still accepts charge without complaint. The BMS reports a full charge because voltage looks correct, but actual stored energy is a fraction of the rated 1500mAh. Replacing the cell restores the full charge-to-discharge window the light was sized for.
Motion sensor triggers but LEDs don't illuminate
The motion sensor circuit draws far less current than the LED array, so a degraded cell can still trigger detection while lacking the output voltage to fire the LEDs at full load. When the LED array pulls current, the battery voltage sags below the minimum drive threshold and the LEDs cut out or fail to light at all. Check the battery terminal voltage under load — it should hold at or above 5.4V during LED activation. If it drops below that, the cell needs replacing.

Frequently Asked Questions
The solar panel gets sun all day but the light still dies before midnight — what's wrong?
A full day of sun doesn't guarantee a full charge if the panel angle or partial shading is reducing output below the BMS minimum input threshold. The Sunforce solar circuit needs direct, unobstructed light to push enough current to charge the 1500mAh cell completely. If the panel is fixed at a shallow angle or sees shade for part of the day, the cell only partially charges and runs out mid-night. Reposition the panel to face direct sunlight as close to perpendicular as possible and check whether the full-sun charge time is closer to 8–10 hours.
The light worked fine all summer but stopped coming on after the first cold nights — is the battery dead?
Ni-MH cells lose usable capacity in cold temperatures because internal resistance rises, and a cell that tests fine at room temperature can sag badly below 5°C. If the light fails to activate on cold nights but returns in milder weather, the cell is likely at end-of-life — cold exposure is exposing the capacity loss the warm months masked. A degraded Ni-MH cell that reads 6V off-load can still collapse under the LED draw. Replace the SM2P-5SW cell and the problem will resolve even before repositioning the panel.
The replacement battery arrived, I fitted it, but the light still won't charge — what am I missing?
A new Ni-MH cell sometimes arrives in a partially discharged state after shipping and storage, and some BMS circuits won't begin a solar charge cycle until the cell voltage is above a minimum recovery threshold. If the panel isn't initiating a charge, connect the battery to a compatible 6V Ni-MH charger for one full cycle first to bring it above that floor. Once the cell voltage is at or above 6V, reconnect it to the Sunforce unit and place the panel in direct sunlight — the solar charge circuit should then recognise the cell and begin topping it up normally.
