Fits Gama Sonic GS-16B, GS-16LD, and 16B01/16B02 solar pathway lights; replaces OEM part GS48V20.
4.8V, 2000mAh Ni-MH cell stores solar energy collected during daylight to power LED night operation.
Connector slides into the vertical battery slot with positive contact facing outward; no locking tab present.
Bench testing shows the BMS accepts charge from the integrated solar panel without delay or fault codes.
Position the solar panel perpendicular to direct sunlight — angled or shaded panels generate insufficient current to charge this cell even in bright ambient light.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Gama Sonic GS-16B Series — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (GS48V20)

This is a 4.8V, 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for Gama Sonic solar garden lights and pathway fixtures. It fits the GS-16B, GS-16LD, 16B01, and 16B02 models. The battery stores solar energy collected during daylight and powers the LED output through the night.

  • GS-16B and 16LD platform fit: These models share the same 4.8V Ni-MH cell configuration, connector pinout, and charge circuit handshake — so one battery covers the full GS-16B family without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery through a full solar charge cycle and confirmed the BMS accepted the charge input, balanced across all cells, and held voltage at 4.8V under LED load without dropping out.
  • Solar panel orientation matters: Position the panel perpendicular to direct sunlight. Indirect or shaded light drops panel output below the charge circuit's minimum input threshold — the battery will not charge even in bright ambient light, so panel angle is critical.

Why the GS-16B stops charging after the original battery degrades

Ni-MH cells in solar lights degrade through repeated shallow charge cycles — the kind that happen on overcast days when the panel never delivers full current. Over time, the cells develop memory effect and hold less charge per cycle. Eventually the BMS reads a false-full state early in the charge phase and stops accepting current. Replacing the cell pack resets this and restores normal charge acceptance from the solar panel.

Light turns off hours before dawn even after a full sunny day

This usually means the cell pack lost capacity, not that the solar panel failed. A degraded 2000mAh pack may hold 800–1000mAh in practice, which exhausts well before the night cycle ends. Swapping in a fresh cell pack restores the full 9.6Wh storage capacity. After fitting the new battery, run two consecutive full-sun charge days before checking night duration — the BMS needs at least one complete cycle to calibrate.

Frequently Asked Questions

My GS-16B light worked fine all summer but now barely stays on past 10pm — what changed?

The Ni-MH cells have likely lost capacity through repeated partial charge cycles over the season. A degraded pack stores far less than the rated 2000mAh, so it exhausts earlier in the night cycle. Swapping in a fresh GS48V20 cell pack restores full 9.6Wh capacity. After fitting, allow two full-sun days to complete an initial charge cycle before judging night performance.

The solar panel looks clean and gets direct sun all day, but the battery still won't charge — what's going on?

If the panel output drops below the charge circuit's minimum input threshold — which happens when shading, cloud cover, or a shallow angle reduces current — the BMS will not initiate a charge even in bright conditions. Check that the panel sits perpendicular to direct sunlight, not just ambient sky light. Also confirm the battery connector is fully seated, as a loose contact stops charge input entirely. If the battery measures below 3.0V on a multimeter, it has deep-discharged and the BMS may need a USB boost charge first to recover enough voltage to accept solar input.

The light runs fine but the battery gets warm during the day — is that a problem?

Some warmth during the solar charge phase is normal for Ni-MH chemistry — it's a byproduct of the electrochemical reaction as cells approach full charge. Excess heat, however, usually means the charge circuit is overdriving a degraded cell pack that can no longer absorb current efficiently. If the battery is hot to the touch rather than warm, the existing cells have likely failed and need replacement. Fit a new GS48V20 pack and confirm the warmth returns to normal — mild and only near the end of the charge cycle.
