Fits Profoto A1, A10, A1x, and A2 flash heads; replaces OEM part number 29597.
7.4V 2500mAh capacity delivers consistent flash cycles across full-power and reduced-output shots.
Slide connector seats horizontally into the battery door slot; locking tab prevents accidental ejection during use.
We bench-tested the cell on an A1 head at full power for ten consecutive shots; BMS voltage regulation held steady through capacitor recharge cycles without stepping down output.
Power cycle the flash head fully off before the first shot after fitting this cell—the BMS handshake initializes correctly only from a cold start, not a hot swap mid-session.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Profoto A1 / A1x / A10 / A2 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (29597)

This 7.4V 2500mAh (18.5Wh) Li-ion cell replaces the OEM battery in the Profoto A1, A1x, A10, and A2 on-camera strobe lights. All four models share the same battery bay geometry, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol, so one cell covers the full lineup. Capacity figure is from product data — 2500mAh.

  • A1, A1x, A10, and A2 compatibility: Profoto standardised the battery format across this generation of shoe-mount strobes. Voltage rail, physical housing, and BMS handshake are identical — the flash head reads cell state of charge through the same three-pin protocol on all four models.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through repeated full-power capacitor recharge sequences. The BMS held stable under the high-current draw each recharge cycle demands, and cell temperature stayed within normal range across a sustained high-power run.
  • First-fit initialisation on the A1 series: After seating a new cell, power the flash fully off and back on from cold before firing the first shot. The BMS handshake that syncs cell state-of-charge to the flash's display completes only on a cold boot — inserting a cell into a flash that was already powered skips that handshake and can cause inaccurate battery indicators.

Flash output stepping down after 10–15 full-power shots

At full power, the A1 series recharges its capacitor bank with a high current draw that spikes cell voltage sag. A cell with elevated internal resistance — either aged or not yet conditioned — cannot sustain the voltage the BMS expects during that spike. The flash firmware interprets the sag as low charge and throttles output to protect the cell. Five full charge-discharge conditioning cycles reduce internal resistance and restore consistent full-power delivery.

Recycle time between shots slower than the previous cell

New Li-ion cells ship with higher internal resistance than a broken-in cell at the same chemistry. That resistance limits how fast charge can flow into the capacitor, stretching recycle time. This is not a defect — it normalises after five conditioning cycles of full discharge followed by a full charge. After conditioning, recycle time on the A1 at mid-power settings should return to the interval the previous cell delivered.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Profoto A1 dock is cycling between the charge LED and the ready LED after I fitted this cell — what's happening?

The dock is failing to complete a BMS handshake with the new cell. Remove the battery, power the flash head fully off, reinsert the cell, then power back on from cold. That cold-boot sequence lets the BMS initialise correctly and the dock should settle on a steady charge LED within 60 seconds.

Flash output is dropping noticeably after about 10 full-power shots — is the cell faulty?

Not necessarily. High internal resistance in an unconditioned new cell causes voltage to sag under the capacitor recharge current spike. The A1 firmware reads that sag as low battery and steps down output. Run five full charge-discharge cycles and retest — internal resistance drops with conditioning and output stability returns. Check cell voltage under load; it should hold above 7.0V during recharge at full power once conditioned.

The cell feels noticeably warm after a sustained shoot at high power settings — is that normal?

Yes, within limits. Capacitor recharge on the A1 series is high-current work, and some heat generation is expected. The cell is within safe operating range if it feels warm but not hot to the touch. If the flash triggers a thermal shutdown mid-session, reduce the duty cycle — allow two to three seconds between full-power shots — which keeps recharge current demand below the threshold that drives excessive heat buildup.
