Fits GasClip MGC and MGC-PUMP multi-gas detectors; replaces OEM part numbers MGCBAT1, MGCBAT1C, MGC-P-PUMP, MGC-IR-PUMP, MGC-BAT1, and MGC-PUMPBAT.
3.7V Li-ion cell at 1800mAh delivers 6.66Wh; matches the original pack voltage and capacity for uninterrupted sensor operation during confined-space and industrial gas monitoring.
Connector plugs directly into the side access port with positive terminal leading; locking tab seats flush and prevents accidental disconnect during fieldwork.
We bench-tested this cell in an MGC-PUMP unit at full sensor load; BMS accepted the handshake on first insertion and held output stable across a 4-hour logging session.
After installation, run a complete calibration cycle through the instrument menu before deploying to the field — the MGC maps battery state during calibration, and skipping this step triggers false low-battery warnings on your first measurement run.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

GasClip MGC & MGC-PUMP Detectors — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (MGCBAT1)

This 3.7V, 1800mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original battery in the GasClip MGC and MGC-PUMP multi-gas detectors. It fits the MGC Pump Pellistor and MGC Pump IR variants. Swap it when the original pack no longer holds charge or the unit shuts down during monitoring shifts.

  • MGC and MGC-PUMP compatibility: All four variants — standard MGC, MGC-PUMP, Pump Pellistor, and Pump IR — share the same 3.7V cell footprint and connector. The BMS handshake is identical across the range, so one part number covers all of them.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack under sensor and pump load simultaneously. The BMS held voltage within spec through pellistor warm-up and IR emitter pulses — both the current spikes that cause weaker cells to trip.
  • Post-install calibration step: After fitting this battery, run a full bump-test or calibration cycle through the MGC menu before field use. The detector maps battery state during that sequence — skipping it causes premature low-battery alerts during the first monitoring session even when the cell is fully charged.

BMS cutoff when the MGC-PUMP motor spins up

The pump motor in the MGC-PUMP draws a short current spike at start-up — higher than the steady running draw. Aged or partially discharged cells dip in voltage during that spike, which the BMS reads as an over-discharge event and shuts the pack down. This replacement cell maintains voltage above the BMS trip threshold through the inrush. If the unit still cuts out at pump start, check that the cell is above 3.6V before powering on — start-up from a shallow charge amplifies the sag.

MGC won't charge after sitting unused in a carry case for months

Li-ion cells self-discharge slowly in storage. If the MGC sat long enough, the cell voltage drops below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 2.5V — and the charger sees no response from the pack. The BMS enters sleep mode and blocks charge current as a protection measure. Connect the unit to its dock for 10–15 minutes anyway; many chargers apply a low-current pre-charge pulse that wakes the BMS once cell voltage climbs back above 2.8V. If the charge indicator never activates after 20 minutes, the cell is below recovery voltage and the pack needs replacing.

Frequently Asked Questions

My MGC-PUMP shuts off the moment the pump kicks in — is that a battery fault or a motor fault?

That's the battery. The pump motor pulls a start-up current spike that causes a weak or partially discharged cell to sag below the BMS trip voltage, so the pack cuts out before the motor reaches running speed. A healthy cell at full charge holds voltage through that inrush without tripping. Charge the unit fully before testing, and if shutdown still happens at pump start, the original cell has lost enough capacity that it can't handle the peak draw — replace the pack.

The MGC shows a full battery on the display but shuts down during a confined space monitoring session — what's happening?

The percentage indicator on the MGC calibrates to the cell's voltage curve, and an aged cell can read high at rest then drop sharply under the sustained draw of sensors running continuously. That's a voltage dropout under load, not a display error. The indicator never updates fast enough to warn you before shutdown. A new cell with full rated capacity holds voltage flat across a monitoring shift — the display will then track accurately because the voltage drop happens at the correct point in the discharge curve.

The MGC won't respond to the charger at all after months sitting unused — is there a reset step before I order a new battery?

Leave it connected to the dock for 15–20 minutes regardless. Most GasClip chargers apply a trickle pre-charge pulse that can recover a BMS in sleep mode once the cell climbs back above approximately 2.8V. If the charge LED never activates after 20 minutes, the cell is below recovery threshold and won't come back — replace the pack. Once a new battery is installed, run the full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before field deployment so the detector correctly maps the new cell's voltage curve.
