Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Geo-Fennel FL 500 / FL 550 / FLG 500 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (10-05507)
This 3.7V 10400mAh (38.48Wh) lithium-ion battery replaces OEM part 10-05507 in the Geo-Fennel Rotationslaser FL 500, FL 550, FLG 500, and related models. These rotary laser levels are used for grade establishment, site layout, and reference projection on construction sites. A depleted or failing cell disrupts leveling output and forces expensive downtime mid-job.
- FL 500 / FL 550 / FLG 500 platform: These models share the same battery bay geometry, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one cell pack covers the full group. The 3.7V nominal rail powers both the rotation motor and the leveling compensation servo simultaneously, so cell capacity directly affects how consistently the servo holds calibration under load.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge-discharge cycles on the FL 500 platform. The onboard BMS handled cell balancing correctly, accepted charge without thermal trip, and held voltage within spec across sustained motor and servo draw. No BMS rejection flags appeared during the session.
- Post-install calibration step: After fitting this battery, run a full calibration cycle through the FL 500's instrument menu before field deployment. The laser maps battery state during calibration — skipping this step causes the low-battery indicator to trigger prematurely on the first job-site session, even when the cell is fully charged.
BMS lockout after the FL 500 sat unused in a carry case for months
Long storage periods drain a Li-ion pack below the BMS recovery threshold — typically under 2.5V per cell. When that happens, the protection circuit opens and the instrument sees no voltage at the battery contacts, so it will not power on at all. This is not a dead cell in most cases. Connect the pack to a compatible charger that supports recovery or pre-charge mode; many standard chargers skip this step and report a fault immediately. Hold the charger on the pack for 15–20 minutes at low current — if the cell recovers, voltage will climb above 3.0V and normal charging resumes.
FL 500 shuts down abruptly when the leveling servo initialises
At power-up, the auto-leveling compensation servo draws a short current spike — higher than steady-state rotation load. An aged or partially discharged cell can sag below the BMS undervoltage cutoff during that spike, tripping a shutdown before the laser ever begins rotating. The instrument appears to power on, then cuts out within two to three seconds. Charge the pack fully before the next power-on attempt and confirm resting voltage is at or above 4.1V before fitting it. If the shutdown repeats on a fully charged pack, the cell's internal resistance has risen enough that it can no longer sustain the initialisation spike — replace the battery.

Frequently Asked Questions
The FL 500 shows a low-battery warning almost immediately after I fit a new pack — is something wrong with the battery?
Nothing is wrong with the cell. The FL 500 maps battery state during its calibration routine, and if you skip that cycle after installing a new pack, the instrument's voltage threshold indicator stays calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve. Run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu on first use. That resets the reference and the low-battery warning stops triggering early.
My FL 500 readings keep drifting and then the display resets mid-session — what's causing that?
This happens when cell voltage sags under the combined draw of the rotation motor and the leveling servo running together during a sustained session. The voltage drop crosses the instrument's reset threshold, causing the display to briefly drop out and re-initialise. It is not a calibration fault — it is a power delivery issue. Charge the pack fully before each session and check that resting voltage reads at or above 4.1V; if sag continues on a fully charged pack, the cell's capacity has degraded and needs replacement.
The pack won't take a charge after the laser sat in storage over winter — the charger just shows a fault light immediately.
Extended storage drained the pack below the BMS recovery voltage, typically under 2.5V per cell, causing the protection circuit to open. A standard charger sees no voltage at the terminals and faults out before it can push any current in. Use a charger with a recovery or pre-charge mode, or leave the pack connected to a compatible charger for 15–20 minutes at low current. If cell voltage climbs above 3.0V during that window, the BMS will re-initialise and normal charging resumes.
