Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

SatLook Micro+ / Micro G2 / Micro HD — 12V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (NB-2x5)
This is a 12V, 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement for the SatLook NB-2x5 battery pack. It fits the Micro+, Micro G2, and Micro HD portable satellite field instruments. Voltage and cell count match the original pack exactly, so the instrument's power rail sees no difference on startup.
- Micro+, Micro G2, and Micro HD compatibility: All three models share the same 12V bus, NB-2x5 footprint, and connector pinout. The BMS handshake across all three expects the same charge profile — this pack meets that profile without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through a full charge cycle and simulated a field measurement session with sustained sensor load. The BMS held voltage within spec throughout logging and did not trip on probe initialisation.
- First deployment after install: After fitting this pack, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before heading into the field. The Micro+ maps battery state during calibration — skipping it causes the low-battery indicator to fire early on the first real measurement session.
BMS cutoff when the SatLook probe or sensor module initialises
When the instrument powers up a connected probe or sensor module, it draws a short current spike that can exceed the BMS overcurrent threshold on a partially discharged or cold pack. The BMS interprets this spike as a fault and cuts power, which shuts the instrument down mid-startup. This is more common in cold field conditions, where Ni-MH internal resistance rises sharply. Charge the pack fully to 12V before connecting any external probe module — a full cell means lower internal resistance and a narrower spike.
Instrument readings drift or reset during an active logging session
Sustained sensor load during a long logging session draws continuous current that gradually pulls cell voltage down. If voltage sags below the instrument's operating threshold — typically around 10.5V for a 12V Ni-MH pack — the processor resets to prevent corrupt data writes, which clears the active log buffer. This shows up as readings jumping back to zero or session data disappearing mid-field. If this happens repeatedly, check terminal voltage under load with a multimeter; anything below 10.8V under active sensor draw means the pack needs replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions
My SatLook Micro+ won't charge at all after sitting in the carry case for several months — is the pack dead?
Ni-MH cells self-discharge over storage, and if the pack drops below the BMS recovery threshold (around 8–9V for a 12V pack), the charger won't initiate a charge cycle because the BMS registers the pack as a fault condition rather than a flat battery. This is a BMS sleep state, not a dead pack. Try a short trickle charge using a Ni-MH-compatible charger set to a low pre-charge rate — this nudges the cell voltage up enough for the BMS to re-engage the normal charge cycle. If terminal voltage reads above 9V after 15 minutes of trickle, the pack will recover; below that, replace it.
The Micro HD powers on fine but shuts off immediately when I start a USB data transfer to a PC — why?
USB data transfer activates the instrument's communication processor alongside the active sensor bus, and that combined draw is higher than normal measurement mode alone. On a pack that has capacity-faded from repeated shallow cycling, this combined load pulls voltage below the instrument's minimum operating threshold, triggering an automatic shutdown to protect the data buffer. The instrument staying alive during normal measurement but dying on USB transfer is the tell — it means usable capacity has dropped enough that the pack can only sustain lighter single-function loads. Measure resting voltage after a full charge; if it reads below 12.5V fully charged, the cells have faded and the pack needs replacing.
The SatLook Micro+ shows a full battery on the display right after charging, but the low-battery warning fires within the first few minutes of use — what's happening?
The instrument's voltage-threshold indicator was calibrated to the discharge curve of the old pack. A new Ni-MH pack has a slightly different resting voltage profile, and the indicator hasn't mapped the new cells yet. Running a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu after fitting the new pack allows the instrument to re-establish where on the discharge curve each warning threshold sits. Do this before field deployment and the premature low-battery warning will not reappear on subsequent sessions.
