Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sokkia SET 200 / SDL30 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BDC46)
This 7.4V 2200mAh Li-ion battery replaces the BDC46 pack used in the Sokkia SET 200 and SDL30 total stations. It fits a wide range of Sokkia survey instruments including the SCT6 and SDL50. The cells meet the voltage and current draw requirements of the EDM module and onboard data logger.
- SET 200, SCT6, SDL30, and SDL50 compatibility: These instruments share the same 7.4V battery bay, BDC46 connector keying, and BMS handshake protocol — one pack covers the full platform without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through EDM initialisation and continuous angle-logging on a SET 200. The BMS held within spec during the EDM power-up current spike and did not trip under sustained sensor load.
- Post-install calibration cycle: After fitting a new pack, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument's system menu before field deployment. The SET 200 maps battery state during calibration — skipping this step causes the low-battery warning to trigger early on your first measurement session.
BMS lockout after the instrument sat unused in a carry case for months
Li-ion cells left unused in a closed instrument bay self-discharge slowly. If the pack drops below approximately 2.5V per cell, the BMS enters a protective lockout and the instrument will not power on — even when placed on the charger. The charger sees the pack as a fault condition and halts. A dedicated Li-ion recovery charger that supplies a low precharge current (around 0.1C) can bring the cells back above the BMS recovery threshold, typically 3.0V per cell, at which point normal charging resumes.
SET 200 shuts down mid-measurement with battery indicator still showing charge
This happens when cell capacity has faded enough that voltage sags sharply under the combined draw of the EDM and data logger — even though the resting voltage looked acceptable. The instrument's cutoff circuit responds to instantaneous voltage drop, not resting voltage, so a partially degraded pack can appear fine at idle and then trip the cutoff the moment the EDM fires. Replacing the pack and running the calibration cycle resets the instrument's voltage-threshold mapping. Confirm the new pack reads 7.4V at rest before the first field session.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Sokkia SET 200 won't charge a brand-new BDC46 pack — the charger light just flashes and stops. What's wrong?
A flashing fault light on the Sokkia charger usually means the pack arrived below the BMS recovery voltage after shipping. The BMS has gone into lockout and the standard charger won't push current into it. Use a Li-ion recovery charger set to a 0.1C precharge rate until each cell climbs back above 3.0V, then transfer to the Sokkia charger and it will accept the pack normally.
Readings on the SDL30 keep resetting to zero partway through a logging session even though the battery looks fine.
This is a voltage dropout issue, not a display fault. Under sustained sensor and logging load, a cell with mild capacity fade can sag enough mid-session to briefly trigger the instrument's undervoltage reset — the display snaps back to zero and the session data is lost. The resting voltage still looks reasonable, which is why the indicator shows charge. Swap in a fresh pack, run the calibration cycle through the system menu, and confirm resting voltage is at or above 7.4V before the next session.
The SET 200 powers on but cuts out every time we start a USB data transfer to the PC. Battery is fully charged.
USB data transfer adds a second load on top of the instrument's normal draw. If the pack's cells have degraded even slightly, the combined current pulls voltage below the BMS cutoff threshold and the instrument shuts off to protect the cells. A battery that handles measurement sessions fine will still fail under this higher combined draw. Fit a fresh pack, complete the post-install calibration cycle, and the cutoff threshold will be correctly mapped to the new cell's discharge curve.
