The 876's IR detector draws a sustained load during continuous imaging — higher than standby, and higher again when the unit is writing images to the SD card simultaneously. An aged or degraded cell cannot hold the voltage rail stable under that combined draw. The BMS interprets the resulting voltage sag as a low-cell event and cuts power to protect the pack. Testo 876 not recognising a new pack after the camera sat unused for months

If a pack discharges below roughly 2.5V during storage, the BMS enters a low-voltage sleep state and the 876 will not acknowledge the battery at all — the screen stays blank or shows a battery error on the first press of the power button. Connect the camera to its Testo mains charger for at least 15 minutes before attempting to power on. This trickle-charges the cell back above the BMS recovery threshold, typically around 2.8–3.0V, and re-initialises the protection circuit.

Yes. USB data transfer adds a second draw on top of the camera's active imaging load, and a cell with reduced capacity cannot sustain both simultaneously. Fit a fresh pack and confirm the camera stays on through a full transfer — if it does, the old cell was the cause.

The battery percentage on my Testo 876 jumps around or resets to a different number every time I reboot — what causes that?

The 876 estimates remaining charge by tracking voltage against a stored discharge curve. A new cell has slightly different resting voltages than the worn pack it replaced, so the indicator recalibrates over the first few charge and discharge cycles. Run two or three full charge-to-use cycles through the instrument before trusting the percentage readout — it stabilises once the camera has mapped the new cell's voltage behaviour.

My Testo 876 readings drift and the image freezes briefly during a logging session, then recover — is that a battery issue?

This points to a momentary voltage dropout under sustained sensor load rather than a software fault. When the cell voltage dips below the detector's stable operating threshold mid-session, the 876 briefly interrupts the imaging pipeline before recovering. Check the pack voltage under load — if it sags below 3.4V during active capture, the cell no longer holds sufficient charge density for extended logging sessions and needs replacing.
