Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Ematic KIDS PBSKD12 — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (NV3854120)
This 3.7V, 3000mAh lithium-polymer battery replaces part number NV3854120 in the Ematic KIDS PBSKD12, PBKRWM5410, and PBS KIDS 7" Pad tablets. These are children's educational tablets, and a failing battery is usually the first thing that pulls them off the desk permanently. Swapping this cell brings the tablet back to full portable use without replacing the whole unit.
- PBSKD12, PBKRWM5410, and PBS KIDS 7" Pad compatibility: These three models share the same battery bay dimensions and connector pinout, and all use the NV3854120 cell at 3.7V nominal. The BMS handshake is identical across the group, so no firmware flag or pairing step is needed after installation.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the PBSKD12 platform and confirmed the BMS accepted the new cell without triggering a fault state. Voltage held steady across the display-active and WiFi-active combined load.
- Fuel gauge reset after installation: After fitting this battery, run the tablet down to automatic shutoff, then charge it uninterrupted to 100% without unplugging early. This gives the fuel gauge IC a full reference cycle against the new cell and corrects the inaccurate percentage readings that typically appear right after a swap.
Tablet shutting down at 15–25% remaining after battery replacement
This is a voltage cliff issue, not a faulty cell. When the display backlight and WiFi radio draw simultaneously, the combined load pulls the cell voltage down faster than the fuel gauge IC expects based on its old calibration data. The tablet's protection circuit reads that dip as a low-voltage cutoff event and shuts down even though capacity remains. One full discharge-to-shutoff cycle followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% resets the reference curve. After that cycle, the shutdowns at 15–25% stop.
Battery percentage jumping or stuck after swap
The fuel gauge IC stores calibration data tied to the original cell's internal resistance profile. A new cell has a different resistance curve, so the IC reports inaccurate numbers until it recalibrates. You'll see the percentage jump forward or stall at a fixed number, usually somewhere between 40% and 70%. Power the tablet fully off, charge it to 100% with the device off, then use it normally — the IC recalibrates passively over one to two full cycles. After that, percentage display stabilises.

Frequently Asked Questions
The PBSKD12 shows 45% battery but turns off immediately — is the new battery faulty?
The cell is almost certainly fine. The fuel gauge IC calibrated itself to the original battery's internal resistance, and the new cell reads differently at load — so the reported percentage and the actual cutoff voltage don't match yet. Run the tablet down to automatic shutoff, then charge it uninterrupted to 100% with the screen off. That full reference cycle resets the IC, and the premature shutdowns stop.
Fast charging stopped working after replacing the battery on the PBS KIDS 7" Pad — what happened?
The charge controller needs at least one completed charge cycle on the new cell before it re-negotiates the higher current rate. Plug in using the original adapter and let it complete one full uninterrupted charge from low to 100% without unplugging early. After that cycle, the charge IC has enough data on the new cell's acceptance curve to allow the faster rate again.
The tablet gets noticeably warm near the back during the first few charges after the battery swap — is that a problem?
Warmth during the first two to three charge cycles on a new lithium-polymer cell is normal. The charge IC runs a conditioning pass on a new cell — slightly higher internal resistance at first causes the extra heat. Surface temperature should stay well under 40°C and drop to normal levels by the third full charge. If the back becomes hot to the touch or charging stalls, check that the connector is fully seated and that no adhesive foam is blocking the cell's contact with the chassis.
