Fits Dirt Devil M668 handheld vacuum; replaces OEM part DD-0668003.
6V 2000mAh Ni-MH delivers sustained motor voltage under carpet load without premature cutout.
Connector slides straight into the battery slot with a single locking tab — no polarity guessing.
We bench-ran this cell on load simulation; BMS held steady through sustained suction cycles with no recovery trips.
Do not leave the vacuum on the charging dock continuously — cordless vacuums fade capacity faster under dock trickle charge than when charged only after depletion.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Dirt Devil M668 — 6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (DD-0668003)

This 6V 2000mAh Ni-MH battery replaces part number DD-0668003 in the Dirt Devil M668 cordless handheld vacuum. It fits the M668 directly and restores power to the motor drive circuit. Capacity is 2000mAh (12Wh) as specified for this platform.

  • M668 platform fit: The M668 uses a dedicated 6V Ni-MH pack with a specific connector orientation and cell arrangement. The DD-0668003 part number confirms the correct BMS profile and terminal layout for this vacuum's charge circuit.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the M668 motor circuit. The BMS held cutoff correctly under sustained suction load and recovered cleanly after a full charge cycle.
  • Dock charging on the M668: Do not leave the M668 sitting on its charging dock continuously. Ni-MH cells in cordless vacuums develop capacity fade faster under constant trickle charge than from normal use cycles. Charge to full, then remove from the dock.

Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low on the M668

This happens when the motor draws more current than the cell can sustain at its present state of charge. Ni-MH voltage sags under load before the indicator registers a low reading. A partially blocked filter makes it worse — the motor works harder to pull air and draws higher current earlier in the discharge curve. Clean the filter first, then run a full charge cycle to confirm whether the issue was filter restriction or cell degradation.

M668 motor cuts out mid-use then restarts after a few seconds

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. When airflow is restricted — blocked filter, clogged nozzle, or hair wrap on the brush — the motor draws a current spike and the BMS shuts the output to protect the cell. After a few seconds the BMS resets and the vacuum restarts. Clear the blockage and check the filter before replacing the battery. If the trip still occurs on an unobstructed vacuum with a fully charged new cell, measure terminal voltage under load — it should hold above 5.4V during normal operation.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Dirt Devil M668 loses suction noticeably before the battery light shows low — is the new battery faulty?

Not necessarily. Ni-MH cells produce a voltage sag under motor load well before the indicator circuit registers a low state. A restricted filter forces the motor to draw more current, which accelerates that sag. Clean the filter thoroughly, run a full charge cycle, and check whether suction holds longer. If the problem persists with a clean filter, measure terminal voltage at the battery contacts during use — a healthy cell should hold above 5.4V under load.

The M668 keeps cutting out after 10–15 seconds of use and then restarts on its own — what's causing that?

That pattern is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a charge problem. When airflow is blocked — clogged filter, hair on the brush roll, or a sealed nozzle — the motor pulls a current spike and the BMS cuts output to protect the cell. It resets automatically after a few seconds. Clear every blockage and re-test on a hard floor with no obstructions. If the trip still happens with nothing blocking airflow, the charger or dock connection may not be completing a full charge cycle — verify the terminal voltage reads 6.8–7.2V immediately after a full charge.

The replacement battery fades noticeably faster than it did when new, even after only a few weeks — what went wrong?

Continuous dock charging is the most common cause. Ni-MH cells lose capacity quickly when held on trickle charge indefinitely — the M668 dock is not designed for permanent storage charging. Charge the battery to full, remove the vacuum from the dock, and only return it when it needs charging again. After two or three proper charge-and-discharge cycles using this method, capacity typically stabilises at the rated 2000mAh level.
