Fits Dyson DC-16, D12, DC16 Animal, and DC16 Root 6 models; replaces OEM part BP-01.
22.2V and 2000mAh capacity deliver full motor power to cordless vacuum cleaning head.
Connector slides into dock housing with locking tab; verify dock contacts are clean before insertion.
We bench-tested this cell on a DC-16 motor load; BMS managed current draw without early cutoff.
Do not leave the vacuum on the charging dock permanently — continuous dock charge degrades cell capacity faster than charge-and-remove cycles.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Dyson DC-16 / DC16 Animal / Root 6 — 22.2V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BP-01)

This is a 22.2V, 2000mAh (44.4Wh) Li-ion battery for the Dyson DC-16 series handheld cordless vacuum. It fits the DC-16, DC16 Animal, DC16 Root 6, and D12 Cordless Vacuum among others. It replaces OEM part numbers BP-01, 12097, 912433-01, 912433-03, and 912433-04.

  • DC-16 series compatibility: All DC-16 variants — including Animal and Root 6 — share the same 22.2V battery platform, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. One battery covers the full lineup.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery through motor-start and sustained suction cycles on the DC-16. The BMS held steady across the full discharge curve with no false overcurrent trips under normal load.
  • Dock charging habit on DC-16: Do not leave the DC-16 sitting on the charger indefinitely after it reaches full charge. Continuous trickle charging accelerates capacity fade on Li-ion cells at this voltage. Charge to full, then remove from the dock.

Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low

The DC-16 motor draws more current the moment airflow is restricted — a clogged filter or partial blockage forces higher amp draw than the cells are rated to sustain. The BMS responds by throttling output voltage before the gauge registers low, which the user reads as a dying battery. Clean the filter first. If suction recovers after a filter clean, the battery was never the problem. If suction still drops with a clean filter and a fully charged cell, check resting voltage — a healthy pack should read at least 24.0V off charge.

Motor cuts out mid-clean and then recovers after a few seconds

This is an overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. The DC-16 BMS cuts power when sustained current exceeds the pack's protection threshold — most commonly triggered by a blocked nozzle or filter running the motor under strain. The BMS resets automatically after a short thermal pause, which is why the vacuum comes back on its own. Clear any blockage, check the filter is seated correctly, and confirm the pack voltage is above 21.0V before ruling out a worn cell.

Frequently Asked Questions

My DC-16 loses suction halfway through cleaning but the battery light still shows full — is the battery failing?

Not necessarily. When the DC-16 filter is partially blocked, the motor pulls more current than the cells can sustain at full output, so the BMS throttles voltage before the gauge drops. Remove and clean the filter, then test again. If suction holds after the clean, the battery is fine — if it still fades with a clean filter and the pack reads below 22V at rest, the cells have degraded.

The DC-16 motor shuts off suddenly during use and restarts on its own after a few seconds — what's causing that?

That's a BMS overcurrent trip. The protection circuit cuts the output when current spikes beyond the safe threshold — usually because a blockage is making the motor work harder than the pack can handle continuously. Check the nozzle and filter for any restriction, clear it, and restart. If it keeps tripping with no blockage present and a fully charged pack, measure resting voltage — it should sit at or above 24.0V after a full charge.

This replacement battery charges fine but the DC-16 runs noticeably shorter than it used to on the original pack — what went wrong?

Capacity fade from continuous dock charging is the most common cause. If the DC-16 spent months sitting on the charger between uses, the original pack's cells degraded from sustained trickle charge — and that habit will affect a replacement the same way if repeated. With the new battery, charge only when depleted and remove from the dock once the indicator shows full. A partially blocked filter also forces the motor to draw above rated current, which shortens each charge cycle — confirm the filter is clean before assuming the new cell is at fault.
