Fits Dyson DC31 Animal, DC34, DC34 Animal, DC35 and related models; replaces OEM part numbers 965557-03, 917083-01, 202932-02, 965557-06, 202932-05, 202932-06, and 202932-01.
22.8V at 5000mAh delivers 114Wh to the motor; this matches OEM output and restores full suction power on depleted cells.
Connector slides straight into the battery port on the grip; locking tab clicks audibly when seated fully against the release lever.
We bench-tested this cell on a DC31 test unit; the BMS accepted full charge in 3.5 hours and held voltage stable under motor load without early cutoff.
Do not leave this battery on the charging dock permanently between uses — cordless vacuum dock chargers apply trickle current continuously and degrade lithium cells faster than removal after full charge.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Dyson DC31 Animal / DC34 / DC35 Series — 22.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (965557-03)

This is a 22.8V, 5000mAh (114Wh) lithium-ion battery for Dyson DC31 Animal, DC34, DC34 Animal, DC35, and related handheld cordless vacuums. It replaces OEM part numbers including 965557-03, 917083-01, 202932-01, 202932-02, and 965557-06. When the original cell degrades and suction drops off early, this swap restores full motor voltage to the unit.

  • DC31 / DC34 / DC35 platform compatibility: These models share the same 22.8V battery rail, connector format, and BMS handshake protocol. Swapping between them works because Dyson standardised the cell block and communication logic across this handheld platform generation.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on a DC35 unit. The BMS cleared the low-voltage lockout flag correctly, the motor spun to full speed on first trigger pull, and the charge indicator responded accurately across all LED segments.
  • Dock charging habit on Dyson handhelds: Do not leave the vacuum sitting on the wall dock permanently between uses. Dyson handhelds on continuous dock charge develop capacity fade significantly faster than units charged only when depleted. Charge to full, then remove from the dock.

Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low

On the DC31 and DC35, the motor controller pulls harder when airflow is restricted — a partially blocked filter forces the motor to draw above its rated current just to maintain suction. The BMS reads this elevated draw as a near-depletion event and steps down voltage to protect the cell. The battery itself still has capacity, but the BMS has already throttled output. Clean or replace the post-motor filter first, then retest before assuming the battery is at fault.

Motor cutting out mid-clean and then recovering after a few seconds

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead cell. When sustained suction restriction drives current past the BMS threshold — common when the cyclone block is partially clogged — the protection circuit opens to prevent cell damage, killing the motor. The BMS resets automatically once current demand drops, which is why power returns after a short pause. Clear the cyclone inlet and filter before the next run, and confirm cell voltage reads above 20V on a multimeter at the terminals after a full charge.

Frequently Asked Questions

My DC35 loses suction well before the battery light even flashes — is the new battery already failing?

Almost always, this is a filter restriction issue, not a cell fault. A blocked post-motor filter forces the motor to draw excess current, and the BMS steps down voltage output early to protect the cell — even when the battery still has significant charge remaining. Remove and tap out the filter, or replace it if it's overdue, then retest. If suction holds longer after that, the battery is fine.

The motor cuts out for a few seconds mid-clean, then comes back on its own — what's causing that?

That's a BMS overcurrent trip. When the cyclone inlet or filter is partially blocked, the motor works harder to maintain airflow, spiking current draw past the BMS protection threshold. The circuit opens to protect the cell, the motor stops, and once demand drops the BMS resets and power returns. Clear the cyclone inlet and check the filter before the next run — if the cutout stops, the cell is not the problem.

I've had the replacement battery for a few months and it already feels weaker than when it arrived — what happened?

Continuous dock charging is the most common cause of early capacity fade on Dyson handhelds. Leaving the unit on the wall mount permanently keeps the cell in a trickle-charge state, which degrades lithium-ion capacity faster than normal use cycles. Going forward, charge the battery to full and remove it from the dock rather than leaving it mounted. To check where capacity currently stands, run the vacuum until the low indicator activates and note how the suction holds — a healthy 22.8V cell should still read above 20V at the terminals at that point.
