Fits Dyson V8, V8 Animal, V8 Absolute, and other V8-range models; replaces OEM part 215681 and equivalent Dyson battery part numbers.
21.6V and 4000mAh capacity delivers the voltage and charge storage this motor demands without sag under full suction load.
Connector slides straight into the V8 battery slot with a quarter-turn locking tab; no adapter needed, seats flush against the motor housing.
We ran discharge cycles on the bench with the brush head engaged on carpet; BMS held voltage stable until cutoff, no early shutdown events.
Do not leave this battery on the charging dock continuously — Dyson's trickle charge degrades capacity faster than charge-to-full and remove cycles.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Dyson V8 Range — 21.6V Li-ion Replacement Battery (215681)

This 21.6V 4000mAh lithium-ion battery replaces the original pack in Dyson V8, V8 Animal, and V8 Absolute cordless stick vacuums. It matches the OEM voltage rail and BMS handshake required by the V8 platform. Capacity data is sourced from product specifications, rated at 86.4Wh.

  • V8 platform compatibility: All V8 variants share the same 21.6V bus, dock connector, and BMS communication protocol. A single cell pack covers the full range without adapter or firmware change.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack on a V8 Absolute through repeated suction cycles. The BMS held stable charge acceptance across multiple charge cycles and showed no false low-battery cutoffs under standard floor and upholstery load.
  • Dock charging habit for V8 batteries: Do not leave the V8 sitting on the wall dock continuously between uses. The V8 dock applies a trickle charge when the pack reaches full — over weeks, this compresses cell capacity measurably. Charge to full and remove from the dock.

Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low

The V8 motor draws significantly more current when airflow is restricted — blocked filters, full bin, or a partial clog in the cyclone head. Under that elevated load, cell voltage sags early and the BMS reads it as a low-charge condition. The machine reduces power before the indicator LED sequence suggests it should. Clean the filter and empty the bin first — if suction recovers immediately, the battery is not the cause.

Motor cuts out mid-session then restarts after a short pause

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. When sustained suction restriction forces the motor to pull above the pack's rated discharge ceiling, the BMS disconnects output to protect the cells. It resets after a brief cooldown, which is why the vacuum restarts unprompted. Check the post-motor filter behind the ball joint — if it is grey with dust, airflow restriction is the trigger. Clear the filter and confirm resting pack voltage reads above 21V before assuming cell failure.

Frequently Asked Questions

My V8 shows a full charge on the indicator but suction drops off well before the battery runs out — what's happening?

A restricted filter forces the V8 motor to draw more current than rated, which causes cell voltage to sag under load even when the pack is charged. The indicator reads state of charge at rest, not under the elevated draw a blocked filter creates. Wash the pre-motor and post-motor filters and let them dry fully for 24 hours before reinserting. If suction holds steady after that, the battery is not the problem.

The V8 cuts out after a few seconds on MAX mode, pauses, then restarts on its own — is this a faulty battery?

Not necessarily. MAX mode pulls well above the standard discharge rate, and if the filter is even partially restricted, current draw spikes high enough to trigger the BMS overcurrent cutoff. The BMS resets once cell temperature drops, which is why the vacuum restarts. Clean both filters first, then retest on MAX — if the cutout stops, the pack is fine. If it persists with clean filters and a fully charged pack, measure resting voltage at the dock connector; it should read at or above 24V off charge.

My V8 battery faded noticeably after a few months even though I charged it regularly — could leaving it on the dock cause this?

Yes. The V8 wall dock does not cut power once the pack is full — it continues to apply a low trickle current. Weeks of continuous dock contact accelerates capacity fade in lithium-ion cells even without visible charge events. Charge the battery to full, then lift the vacuum off the dock and store it separately. Repeating that habit going forward will slow the rate of capacity loss on the replacement pack.
