Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

PROGRESS A21P / A21PL — 18V Li-ion Replacement Battery
This is an 18V 1500mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the PROGRESS A21P and A21PL cordless stick vacuums. It slots into the same battery housing as the original and runs the same 18V motor rail. Capacity is 1500mAh (27Wh), matching the factory specification.
- A21P and A21PL fitment: Both models share the same 18V battery platform, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one battery fits either unit without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran the battery through full charge and discharge cycles on the A21P platform. The BMS held the 18V rail steady under normal suction load and tripped correctly when the motor was stalled — no false cutoffs during standard cleaning passes.
- Dock charging habit on the A21P: Do not leave the vacuum on the charging dock continuously. The A21P charger does not switch to a true maintenance mode — prolonged dock time pushes trickle current into fully charged cells and accelerates capacity fade. Charge to full, then remove from the dock.
Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low on the A21P
The A21P motor draws more current when airflow is restricted — a partially blocked filter forces the motor to work harder, pulling the cell voltage down faster than normal. The battery indicator reads state-of-charge, not voltage under load, so it can still show two bars while the motor is already voltage-sagging. The result is noticeably weaker suction well before the low-battery warning appears. Clean or replace the filter first — if suction recovers immediately, the battery is not the cause.
Motor cuts out mid-clean and then restarts after a few seconds
This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. When suction is sustained against a blockage — a sock caught in the head, a clogged filter, or a full dustbin — the motor current spikes past the BMS threshold and the circuit opens to protect the cells. The BMS resets automatically once current drops, which is why the vacuum restarts after a short pause. Clear the blockage, empty the bin, and check the filter before resuming — if the trip repeats on an unobstructed floor, test cell voltage under load; it should hold above 15V during normal operation.

Frequently Asked Questions
My A21P has noticeably weaker suction halfway through cleaning but the battery indicator still shows charge — is the battery failing?
Not necessarily. A partially blocked filter forces the A21P motor to draw more current than rated, which pulls cell voltage down under load even when state-of-charge still looks normal on the indicator. Clean the filter and empty the dustbin, then run the vacuum again — if suction returns to full strength, the battery is not the issue. If suction stays weak on a clear filter and empty bin, check cell voltage under load; a healthy 18V pack should hold above 15V while the motor is running.
The vacuum cuts out after about a minute on carpet, sits for a few seconds, then starts again — what's causing that?
That is the BMS tripping on an overcurrent event, which happens when the motor is working against restricted airflow — dense carpet pile, a partial blockage, or a clogged filter all drive current above the BMS threshold. The circuit opens to protect the cells, then resets once the load drops, which is why the vacuum restarts on its own. Clear any blockage and clean the filter before the next run. If the trip keeps happening on an unobstructed hard floor, the cells may be degraded and struggling to deliver rated current — a replacement battery will resolve that.
I charged the new battery fully but after a few weeks of leaving it on the dock between uses, it seems to run out of charge faster than when it was new — did I get a faulty unit?
The A21P charger does not drop to a true maintenance or float mode once the pack is full — it continues to push trickle current into the cells. Over several weeks on the dock, that continuous low-level charge degrades cell capacity faster than normal cycling would. Remove the battery from the dock as soon as charging is complete and store it off the charger. Capacity should stabilise once you stop continuous dock charging; if fade continues after correcting the charging habit, the cells have already been damaged and a replacement will be needed.
