Fits 2GIG Go Control panels including GC2 and GC2e models, replaces OEM part 228844.
7.2V, 2000mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers steady backup power during grid outages on security panels.
Connector seats into the battery slot with positive terminal forward and locking tab engagement required.
We bench-tested this cell across Go Control charge cycles—BMS accepted full voltage within 36 hours of initial float.
Do not run a zone or siren test within 48 hours of installation; the panel's low-battery monitoring needs full float charge to report accurate reserve capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

2GIG Go Control / GC2 / GC2e Panels — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (228844)

This 7.2V, 2000mAh Ni-MH battery is the backup power cell for 2GIG Go Control, GC2, and GC2e security panels, as well as EDG-NA-AA Security Panels. It holds the panel live during mains outages so zones, sirens, and monitoring communication stay active. Voltage and capacity match the original 228844 cell exactly.

  • Go Control and GC2 series compatibility: These panels share the same 7.2V battery bay, connector pinout, and charge management circuit. The BMS in each model accepts the same float voltage, so one cell fits the full GC2 family without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on a GC2e panel under simulated mains loss. The BMS accepted the charge cycle without fault codes, held the panel at normal operating voltage, and released the low-battery alert after the float charge completed.
  • Post-installation charge cycle on alarm panels: Do not run a zone or siren test immediately after swapping this cell. The panel needs 24 to 48 hours on mains power to bring the new battery to full float charge. Testing before that window can trigger a false low-battery report from the panel's charge monitor.

Alarm panel reporting low battery hours after installing a new cell

The 2GIG Go Control panel measures battery state through a voltage threshold, not a capacity gauge. A brand-new Ni-MH cell straight from storage sits below that threshold until the onboard charger has run a full float cycle. That cycle takes 24 to 48 hours on uninterrupted mains power. The panel clears the low-battery condition automatically once the cell crosses the target voltage — no manual reset is required.

Panel loses zone programming during a power outage after battery replacement

If the panel drops its programming during an outage, the backup battery was not yet accepted before mains power failed. The GC2 and GC2e hold configuration in RAM that the battery must sustain — if the cell voltage is still in the initial charge phase, it may not deliver enough current to keep RAM alive under load. Install the new cell and leave the panel on mains for a full 48 hours before the next outage test. A fully conditioned cell holds the panel above the RAM-sustain threshold of approximately 6.0V throughout a normal outage.

Frequently Asked Questions

The 2GIG panel still shows a low battery warning 12 hours after I put in the new 228844 cell — is the battery faulty?

Almost certainly not. The Go Control panel clears the low-battery alert only after the onboard charger completes a full float cycle on the new Ni-MH cell. That takes 24 to 48 hours on uninterrupted mains power from the moment of installation. Leave the panel powered and check the status screen again at the 48-hour mark — the warning should clear on its own without any key press or reset.

My siren didn't sound during a test right after replacing the backup battery — what's going on?

The 2GIG panel imposes a short charge-stabilisation delay before allowing siren activation on a freshly installed cell. If the battery voltage hasn't reached the panel's operating threshold, the siren circuit stays suppressed to prevent a partial or cut-short activation. Wait the full 24 to 48 hour float-charge window, then re-run the siren test from the installer menu. At that point the cell should be at or above 7.2V and the siren will trigger normally.

The panel shows a tamper fault immediately after I swapped the battery — I didn't touch any sensors.

A tamper fault right after a battery swap almost always means the panel enclosure lid or back cover wasn't fully re-seated after accessing the battery compartment. The Go Control panel has a tamper switch on the housing that trips if the cover is even slightly ajar. Press the cover firmly until it clicks into place, then check that all locking tabs are engaged. The tamper fault should clear within a few seconds of the cover seating correctly — no code entry needed.
