Fits Abbott Analyzer Printer and i-STAT Printer models; replaces OEM part 04P74-03.
4.8V, 2000mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers stable voltage across the full discharge curve for consistent analyzer performance.
Connector slides straight in with a single locking tab; orientation marked on the battery housing.
We bench-tested this cell in the i-STAT platform at 500mA load; BMS accepted the new pack after one full cycle.
After installation, let the device complete its power-on self-test without interruption—medical analyzers verify battery chemistry at startup and skipping this step triggers false faults.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Abbott Analyzer Printer / i-STAT Printer — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (04P74-03)

This is a 4.8V 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Abbott Analyzer Printer and i-STAT Printer. These are portable point-of-care diagnostic devices used in clinical settings to run lab analysis and print results bedside. It replaces OEM part 04P74-03 directly.

  • Analyzer Printer and i-STAT Printer compatibility: Both models run on the same 4.8V Ni-MH cell stack with the same connector and BMS handshake protocol. The voltage rail and physical footprint match across both units, so one battery covers either device without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through charge and discharge on the bench, confirming BMS communication, correct voltage cutoffs, and stable cell behaviour across the first several cycles. The pack passed charge acceptance and load response checks before release.
  • Post-swap self-test protocol: After installing this battery, let the device complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The Abbott analyzer runs a BMS verification sequence at startup — cutting power during this window registers a false battery fault that sticks until the next clean reboot cycle.

Why the i-STAT Printer alarms low battery on a freshly charged replacement

The BMS in these devices stores a reference profile calibrated to the original OEM cell's charge curve. A new replacement cell has a slightly different internal resistance signature on the first cycle, which the BMS reads as an incomplete charge. The alarm clears after one full charge-discharge cycle lets the BMS recalibrate to the new cell's actual capacity. Do not use the device for diagnostic reporting until that first cycle is complete.

Device not powering on after the battery sat unused in storage

Ni-MH cells self-discharge over time, and if the pack voltage drops far enough during storage, the BMS locks out to prevent cell damage. The device will show no response at all — no boot screen, no alarm. Place the battery on charge for a full uninterrupted charge cycle before attempting to power on the device. Most packs recover fully once voltage climbs back above the BMS recovery threshold, typically around 4.2–4.4V for this 4-cell pack.

Frequently Asked Questions

The analyzer shows a low battery warning right after I put in a fully charged replacement — is the new battery faulty?

It is not faulty. The device BMS holds a learned profile from the original cell, and a new pack's charge curve looks different on the first cycle. The BMS flags this as an incomplete charge until it can recalibrate. Run one full charge-discharge cycle on the new battery before treating the reading as accurate.

The device powers on but shuts off unexpectedly during a test run — what is happening?

New Ni-MH cells carry higher internal resistance in the first several cycles, and the i-STAT's load profile during active analysis pulls harder than standby draw. That resistance causes a temporary voltage sag under load, which the BMS interprets as low cell voltage and cuts power. Run five to ten full charge-discharge cycles to condition the cells — internal resistance drops significantly by cycle five, and the shutoffs stop.

The charge indicator never reaches 100% on the first charge after fitting this battery — should I keep charging it?

The charge IC applies a conservative current limit on an unrecognised cell during the first charge to avoid overcharging an unknown pack. This causes it to terminate early and report below 100%. Let the device complete a full charge, then discharge it fully during normal use, and charge again — the second cycle almost always registers a full charge once the IC has logged the cell's actual capacity.
