Fits I-Stat Printer PR-300; replaces OEM part number 04P74-03.
4.8V and 2000mAh capacity powers the thermal printer module for full diagnostic result cycles.
Connector seats into the battery bay with a single locking tab; orientation marked on the housing.
We bench-tested this Ni-MH cell in the PR-300 charging cradle; the BMS accepted full charge without fault codes.
After installation, let the device complete its power-on self-test cycle without interruption—medical devices run BMS verification at startup, and interrupting this sequence causes a false battery fault that persists until the next full reboot.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

I-Stat Printer PR-300 — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (04P74-03)

This is a 4.8V, 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the I-Stat Printer PR-300. The PR-300 is a portable thermal printer used in hospitals and point-of-care settings to output results from blood gas and electrolyte analyzers. This cell matches the OEM part number 04P74-03 and fits the original battery bay without modification.

  • PR-300 compatibility: The PR-300 uses a fixed 4.8V Ni-MH chemistry that ties directly into the device's charge IC and BMS handshake. Substituting a different chemistry or voltage will trigger a persistent battery fault regardless of charge state.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge, load, and BMS communication checks on the PR-300 platform. The BMS accepted the cell, completed its verification pass, and the charge indicator progressed normally without fault codes.
  • Post-swap power-on sequence: After installing this battery, let the PR-300 complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The device runs a BMS verification step at startup — cutting power during this window causes a false battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot.

Why the PR-300 triggers a low-battery alarm on a freshly charged replacement

The PR-300's charge IC sets its pass threshold based on OEM cell history data stored in the BMS. A new cell has no cycle history, so the BMS treats it as unverified and flags low battery even at full charge. This clears after one complete charge-discharge cycle, which lets the BMS calibrate its capacity estimate against the actual cell. Do not use the printer for clinical reporting until that first full cycle is complete.

PR-300 not powering on after the replacement cell sat in storage

Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–3% per day in storage. If this battery sat long enough before installation, its resting voltage may have dropped below the PR-300's BMS recovery threshold — typically around 4.0V for a 4.8V pack — and the device will not boot. Connect the printer to mains power and leave it on charge for a minimum of 12 hours before attempting to power on. Once the cell recovers above the BMS floor, the device will boot normally and the self-test will run.

Frequently Asked Questions

My PR-300 is showing a low battery alarm straight after I charged the new replacement — did I get a faulty cell?

The cell is almost certainly fine. The PR-300's BMS has no cycle data for a new cell, so it withholds a clean pass until it has seen at least one full charge-discharge cycle. Run the printer through one complete cycle — full charge, then use until the low-battery cutoff — and the alarm will clear. Do not submit results to clinical records until that cycle is done.

The PR-300 won't turn on at all after I installed the replacement battery — the screen stays blank even when I press the power button.

This is a BMS recovery issue, not a dead cell. Ni-MH packs self-discharge in storage, and if the resting voltage dropped below the PR-300's boot threshold (around 4.0V for this 4.8V pack), the device will refuse to power on. Plug the printer into mains power and charge it continuously for at least 12 hours before pressing power again. The BMS will allow boot once the cell voltage recovers above the minimum floor.

The PR-300 is shutting off mid-print on the new battery, but the charge indicator looked full before I started.

New Ni-MH cells have not yet formed their full internal structure, so they show higher voltage sag under load in the first 5–10 cycles than they will after break-in. The PR-300's thermal print head draws a sharp current spike that a new cell handles less smoothly than a conditioned one — the BMS reads the voltage dip as critically low and shuts the device down. Run 5 full charge-discharge cycles before clinical use and the sag will reduce to within normal operating range.
