This is an 11.55V, 5300mAh (61.22Wh) Li-ion battery for the Acer Spin 3 SP314-52 series and TravelMate X3410-M series convertible laptops. It replaces OEM part AC17A8M and the alternate reference 3ICP7/61/80. The cell fits the 2-in-1 chassis and connects through the original BMS-controlled interface.

  • Spin 3 and TravelMate X3410 platform fit: Both series run the same 11.55V three-cell architecture with an identical connector pinout and BMS handshake protocol. That shared rail is why one part number covers both chassis families without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell on the SP314-52 platform through full charge and discharge under combined CPU and display load. The BMS communicated state-of-charge correctly and protection circuits tripped at the expected low-voltage threshold.
  • Post-install calibration on the Spin 3: After fitting, run the battery down until the laptop hibernates, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without interruption. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that typically appears after a cell swap on this platform.

BIOS reporting poor battery health immediately after replacement

Acer's BIOS reads health data from EEPROM registers on the battery controller, not from live cell voltage. When a new cell is installed, those registers still carry stale data from the old pack. The BIOS flags this as degraded health before the fuel gauge IC has run a single calibration pass. One full discharge-to-hibernate followed by a complete uninterrupted charge cycle writes fresh data to those registers. After that cycle, the health indicator clears on the SP314-52 without any firmware update.

Laptop shuts down at 20–30% charge shown on screen

This happens when the fuel gauge IC has not yet calibrated against the new cell's actual voltage curve. The OS reads a percentage from a lookup table built on the old cell's degraded profile, so the number on screen no longer maps to real remaining capacity. When the cell voltage drops below the BMS cutoff threshold — roughly 9.0V under load on this three-cell pack — the system shuts down even though the gauge still shows charge remaining. Run two complete discharge-to-hibernate and full-recharge cycles to let the fuel gauge IC re-map the voltage curve against the new cell.

My Acer Spin 3 shows the new battery as "0% available (plugged in, not charging)" right after install — what's wrong?

The fuel gauge IC is reading EEPROM data from the old cell and has not yet accepted the new cell's charge state. Plug the charger in, leave the laptop closed for 20 minutes, then do a full shutdown and cold boot — not a restart. On most SP314-52 units this clears the zero-percent lock and charging resumes normally. If it persists after the cold boot, run one full discharge to hibernate-cutoff and charge uninterrupted to 100% to force a fresh calibration pass.

Windows battery report shows 61Wh design capacity but full charge capacity reads only 35–40Wh on the first cycle — is the cell faulty?

It is not a fault. The Windows battery report pulls designed capacity from the cell's EEPROM, which is set to the rated 61.22Wh. Full charge capacity in that same report is calculated by the fuel gauge IC from live cell data, and on the first cycle the IC has no calibration history for the new chemistry. We see this consistently on the bench with fresh cells — the reported full charge capacity climbs toward the rated figure over two to three complete discharge-and-charge cycles as the IC builds an accurate voltage curve map.

Charging stopped at 80% and the laptop says the battery is full — is the charge limit locked in firmware?

Acer's BIOS on several Spin 3 units ships with a battery care charge limit that caps charging at 80% to reduce long-term cell stress. Check Acer Care Center — if installed, open it and look under Battery Health Charging Mode. Switch the mode from "Balanced" or "Maximum Lifespan" to "Maximum Capacity" and the charge ceiling lifts to 100%. If Acer Care Center is not installed, download it from Acer's support site, enter your SP314-52 serial number, and install the current version.
