Fits Acterna MTS-5100e and MTS-5000 OTDR units; replaces OEM part numbers TY3CGR18650D-2, N9330B-BCG, N9330B-BAT, 72R6893, NF2040AG24, NI1030, NI1030U, and RWS35.
10.8V Ni-MH pack delivers 4000mAh capacity; sustains stable voltage under the sustained sensor load that field fiber diagnostics demand across extended test sessions.
Connector slides straight into the instrument battery bay with positive pin forward; locking tab seats flush with the MTS-5100e frame without forcing.
We bench-tested this cell in the MTS-5100e and confirmed the BMS accepted the charge without fault codes; voltage held steady through a full measurement cycle.
After installing, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before field deployment — the MTS-5100e maps battery state during calibration, and skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings on the first measurement session.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Acterna MTS-5100e / MTS-5000 Series — 10.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (TY3CGR18650D-2)

This is a 10.8V, 4000mAh Ni-MH battery pack for the Acterna MTS-5100e and MTS-5000 optical time-domain reflectometers. It also fits the OTDR E6000 and Anritsu Lite3000(E) platforms that share the same voltage rail and connector. Cross-referenced OEM part numbers include TY3CGR18650D-2, N9330B-BCG, N9330B-BAT, 72R6893, NF2040AG24, NI1030, NI1030U, and RWS35.

  • Multi-platform fit — MTS-5000 / E6000 / Lite3000(E): These instruments share a 10.8V three-cell Ni-MH architecture, identical connector pinout, and compatible BMS handshake logic. That common spec is why one pack covers all of them.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack on an MTS-5100e under active OTDR trace acquisition. The BMS held charge delivery steady through laser pulse sequences without triggering a low-voltage cutoff or fault flag on the instrument display.
  • First-use calibration on OTDR instruments: After fitting this pack, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before field deployment. The MTS-5100e maps battery state during calibration — skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings on the first measurement session, even when the pack is fully charged.

BMS lockout after the MTS-5100e sat unused in a carry case for months

Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day. After extended storage, cell voltage can drop below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 0.9V per cell. At that point the BMS enters a protection state and the instrument sees no battery at all. A slow pre-charge at 0.1C using a bench charger with a Ni-MH recovery mode is the correct fix. Once cells recover to approximately 1.0V per cell, the BMS releases and normal charging resumes.

OTDR display showing inconsistent charge percentage at every reboot

The MTS-5100e tracks battery state against a stored voltage-threshold profile. A new pack has slightly different open-circuit voltage curves than the depleted cells it replaces. Until the instrument completes two or three full charge-discharge cycles, the displayed percentage recalibrates and may read high or low at startup. Run the instrument through complete drain-and-charge cycles under normal OTDR operation. After three cycles the readings stabilise at the correct threshold mapping.

Frequently Asked Questions

My MTS-5100e shuts down the moment I start a long-range trace — the battery looks fully charged on the menu. What's happening?

The laser and receiver draw a combined current spike at trace initiation that exceeds what a degraded or cold-soaked Ni-MH pack can deliver without a voltage sag. The BMS interprets that sag as a low-cell condition and cuts output before the trace completes. Fit the new pack, run the calibration cycle through the instrument menu, and let the cells warm to at least 15°C before starting long-range acquisitions. If the shutdown persists, check that cell voltage at load stays above 9.5V — anything lower means the pack needs a full conditioning cycle.

The MTS-5100e won't charge the new pack at all — the charger LED just blinks and the instrument shows no battery detected.

Ni-MH cells discharged below approximately 0.9V per cell put the BMS into deep-protection mode, and most instrument chargers lack a recovery pre-charge routine. Connect the pack to a standalone Ni-MH charger that has a manual recovery or trickle mode and apply a 0.1C pre-charge until each cell reads at least 1.0V. Once the BMS releases, return the pack to the MTS-5100e charger — the instrument will then detect it and begin a normal charge cycle.

Readings on my MTS-5100e reset mid-logging session even though the battery indicator was showing over 50% — why?

Under a sustained sensor and display load during a logging session, a Ni-MH pack with partial cell imbalance can produce a brief voltage dropout even when the average state-of-charge looks healthy. That dropout resets the instrument's active measurement session. The voltage-threshold indicator on the MTS-5100e is averaged and does not catch a sub-100ms sag. Cycle the new pack through two full drain-and-charge sequences before deploying it on a long logging session — balanced cells hold voltage above 10.0V under sustained load and prevent mid-session resets.
