Fits EXFO AXS-100, AXS-110 OTDR, FVA-600, FPM-600 and compatible models; replaces OEM part numbers XW-EX003, GP-1001, CGA-E/111GAE.
3.7V 1800mAh Li-ion cell delivers 6.66Wh for sustained field measurements without mid-session power loss on fiber characterization tasks.
Flat connector with positive terminal centered; seats into slot with mechanical locking tab — confirm full seating before closing battery door.
We bench-tested this cell in an AXS-100 probe module; BMS accepted load draw without cutoff during continuous sensor initialization cycles.
Run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu after installation — the AXS-100 maps new battery voltage during calibration, and skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings on the first field session.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

EXFO AXS-100 / AXS-110 OTDR — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (XW-EX003)

This 3.7V 1800mAh Li-ion battery replaces the EXFO XW-EX003 (also cross-referenced as GP-1001 and CGA-E/111GAE). It fits the AXS-100 and AXS-110 OTDR, as well as the FVA-600 and FPM-600 optical power meter series. The pack measures 53.00 × 35.30 × 11.00mm and seats flush in the original battery bay.

  • AXS-100, AXS-110 OTDR, FVA-600, FPM-600 compatibility: These models share the same 3.7V single-cell Li-ion architecture, physical footprint, and connector pinout. The BMS handshake protocol is identical across the range, so the pack communicates state-of-charge correctly in each instrument without firmware intervention.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the AXS-100 under sustained optical launch and receive load. The BMS held the 2.75V low-cell cutoff cleanly and returned a full charge curve without triggering a fault state.
  • Post-installation calibration cycle: After fitting this pack, run a full calibration sequence through the instrument menu before field deployment. The AXS-100 maps battery state during calibration — skipping this step causes the low-battery indicator to fire early on the first measurement session, which can interrupt an active OTDR trace.

BMS lockout on the AXS-100 after the pack sat unused in a carry case

Li-ion cells in low-drain instruments self-discharge slowly over months. If the pack drops below approximately 2.5V per cell, the BMS enters a protection lockout and refuses both charge and load connections. The instrument will show no battery icon and will not power on from the charger. To recover the pack, apply a gentle pre-charge at 0.1C through a compatible charger until the cell voltage climbs above 3.0V — at that point the BMS releases and normal charging resumes.

OTDR trace resets mid-run with a battery showing partial charge

This symptom is not a low-charge event — it is a voltage sag. When the AXS-100 fires its laser source and simultaneously drives the display backlight and processor, instantaneous current draw spikes sharply. An aged or cold cell cannot sustain the voltage rail through that spike, and the instrument resets to protect its logic board. Check cell voltage under load rather than open-circuit — a cell reading 3.6V at rest can sag below 3.2V the moment the laser fires. Replace the pack if loaded voltage drops more than 0.4V from the resting value.

Frequently Asked Questions

My EXFO AXS-100 won't recognise the new battery after it sat in the case all winter — the screen stays blank even on the charger. What's happening?

The pack has likely dropped below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 2.5V — after months of self-discharge in storage. At that voltage the protection circuit locks out both charge and load terminals, so the instrument sees nothing. Connect the pack to a charger capable of pre-charge or trickle mode and leave it for 30–60 minutes until the cell climbs above 3.0V. Once the BMS releases, the AXS-100 will recognise the pack and charge normally.

The AXS-100 cuts out the moment I start a long-haul OTDR measurement, even though the battery indicator showed more than half charge before I launched the trace.

The indicator reflects resting voltage, not the cell's ability to hold that voltage under load. A full OTDR sweep drives the laser, processor, and display simultaneously — that combined draw can pull cell voltage below the BMS cutoff in a fraction of a second if the cell has degraded. We measured this behaviour on the bench: a cell reading 3.65V open-circuit sagged to 3.05V the instant the laser fired. If your pack does this consistently, the cell capacity has faded and the pack needs replacing rather than recharging.

My AXS-100 powers on fine but shuts off every time I transfer trace files to a PC over USB — the battery looks charged. Why?

USB data transfer adds a sustained draw on top of the instrument's normal operating load. The combined current pull is higher than anything the device sees during standby, and an ageing cell cannot sustain the voltage rail through it — the BMS trips to protect the circuit. This is a different failure from a mid-measurement cutout because it is load-duration driven, not peak-spike driven. Charge the pack fully, then attempt the transfer; if the shutdown repeats at above 3.5V resting voltage, the cell can no longer handle combined load and replacement is the correct fix.
