Fits AEG AG408, ZB408, ZB4108 cordless handheld vacuums; replaces OEM part 36.071.399.18.
9.6V and 2000mAh rating delivers full motor torque on carpet and hard floors without voltage sag.
Connector slides onto the dock contacts with a positive engagement tab — verify alignment before inserting.
We bench-tested the pack on motor load; BMS held steady at draw current with no early cutoff.
Do not leave this vacuum on the charging dock permanently — continuous trickle charge degrades Ni-MH capacity faster than charge-to-full, remove, and dock-only cycles.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

AEG AG408 / ZB408 / ZB4108 — 9.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (36.071.399.18)

This is a 9.6V, 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the AEG AG408, ZB408, and ZB4108 cordless handheld vacuum cleaners. It slots into the original battery compartment and restores the vacuum's motor to full operating voltage. Capacity is 2000mAh (19.2Wh), matching the original specification.

  • AG408, ZB408, and ZB4108 fit: These three models share the same 9.6V motor rail, identical battery connector, and the same physical housing format — which is why one cell fits all three. The BMS on each accepts the same charge profile from the original dock.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through discharge under a sustained motor load equivalent to carpet cleaning. The BMS held the cutoff voltage steady and did not trip under normal draw. No voltage sag was recorded at the mid-cycle point.
  • Dock charging practice for this vacuum: Do not leave the AG408 or ZB408 sitting on the charging dock permanently. Ni-MH cells in this voltage class develop capacity fade significantly faster under continuous trickle charge. Charge to full, then remove the vacuum from the dock until the next use.

Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low on the AG408

This is a voltage sag issue, not a failed battery. When the filter is partially blocked, the motor has to work harder to pull air, and current draw climbs above the rated load. At elevated draw, Ni-MH cells drop terminal voltage early — the indicator hasn't caught up yet, but the motor is already running lean. Clean or replace the filter first, then retest. If suction recovers fully after filter cleaning, the battery is fine.

Motor cutting out mid-use and then recovering after a short pause

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead cell. It typically happens when airflow is restricted — a clogged filter forces the motor to draw sustained high current, and the BMS shuts down the cell to protect it. After a short rest, the BMS resets and the vacuum powers on again. Clear the filter and check the intake for blockages. If trips stop after cleaning, the battery is functioning as intended. If trips continue with a clean filter, check that the dock is providing a full charge cycle to 9.6V before each use.

Frequently Asked Questions

My AEG AG408 has noticeably less suction than it used to, but the battery indicator still shows charged — what's causing that?

A partially blocked filter is the most likely cause. When airflow is restricted, the motor draws more current to compensate, and Ni-MH cells at this voltage sag early under elevated load — suction drops well before the indicator registers low. Remove and clean the filter first. If full suction returns, the battery is not the problem.

I replaced the battery on my ZB408 but it won't charge on the original dock — the charge light doesn't come on at all.

Some AEG docks send a brief voltage probe to confirm the cell type before starting a charge cycle. If the new battery's resting voltage is too low from extended storage, the dock may not recognise it. Try connecting the battery to a compatible external Ni-MH charger to bring it up to approximately 9.0V first, then return it to the dock — this usually completes the handshake and the dock will take over from there.

My AEG cordless vacuum used to hold a charge for much longer — now it runs flat quickly even after a full charge. The battery is only a year old.

Continuous dock charging is the most common cause of premature capacity fade in Ni-MH vacuums. Leaving the vacuum docked between every use applies a slow trickle charge that degrades cell capacity faster than standard charge cycles. A replacement cell will restore full capacity, but the same fade will return if the vacuum stays on the dock permanently. Charge to full, remove from dock, and reattach only when the battery is depleted.
