Fits AL-KO Trimmer GTLi 18V Comfort and Rasentrimmer GTLi models with standard battery slot.
18V, 4000mAh capacity delivers steady voltage under sustained trimming load on lawn edges and borders.
Battery slides into AL-KO GTLi housing with side-entry connector and spring-loaded retention tab lock.
We ran full discharge cycles on test trimmer — BMS held voltage stable through motor inrush peaks without nuisance cutoff.
On first use, run the trimmer at half throttle for two cycles before full-load edge cutting to let the BMS establish motor current profiles.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

AL-KO Trimmer GTLi 18V Comfort — 18V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This 18V, 4000mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original pack on the AL-KO GTLi 18V Comfort and Rasentrimmer GTLi cordless grass trimmers. It runs the same 18V rail and connector as the factory battery, so it installs without modification. Capacity is rated at 72Wh.

  • GTLi 18V Comfort and Rasentrimmer GTLi fit: Both models share the same 18V battery rail, connector footprint, and BMS handshake protocol. A single pack covers both variants without adapter or firmware change.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles on the GTLi platform. The BMS held the voltage rail stable through repeated trigger pulls and flagged overcurrent correctly during simulated motor-start spikes.
  • Motor inrush break-in: On first use, run the trimmer at half throttle for two full discharge cycles before cutting dense or overgrown grass. This lets the BMS log the motor's inrush current signature before it sets its overcurrent trip threshold — skipping this on a cold pack can trigger a false cutout on the first heavy pass.

BMS cutoff on GTLi motor-start inrush surge

The GTLi motor draws a short current spike the moment the trigger engages — this inrush can hit three to four times the steady running draw. On a new or cold pack, the BMS may read that spike as an overcurrent fault and cut the output rail before the motor reaches speed. The protection circuit resets automatically, but repeated trips in quick succession can push the pack into a temporary lockout state. Letting the pack warm to room temperature before use and avoiding full-throttle trigger pulls on the first cycle reduces the chance of a false trip.

Charger not recognising a new pack after storage

Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage, and if a pack sits long enough to drop below roughly 2.5V per cell, most AL-KO chargers will refuse to begin a charge cycle — the LED blinks or stays dark instead of cycling to green. The fix is a recovery charge: some chargers have a wake-up mode; if yours does not, try seating and reseating the pack every 30 seconds while the charger is live. Once the cells climb above the acceptance threshold (typically around 10–11V total pack voltage for an 18V pack), the charger recognises it and begins a normal charge cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

My GTLi 18V cuts out the instant I pull the trigger — then restarts fine after a few seconds. What's causing that?

That's the BMS tripping on motor-start inrush current. The moment the motor engages, it pulls a short spike that can exceed the BMS overcurrent threshold on a cold or new pack. The circuit resets itself, which is why it restarts. To stop this happening repeatedly, bring the pack to room temperature before use and run two half-throttle cycles first so the BMS can profile the motor's inrush draw before setting its protection limits.

The trimmer feels weak and bogs down when I hit thicker grass, even with a charged battery. What's going wrong?

This is voltage sag — the pack's internal resistance is high enough that the voltage rail drops under load, starving the motor. Check the battery contacts on both the pack and the tool for corrosion or debris; poor contact resistance makes sag worse. If the contacts are clean, the issue is likely capacity fade from repeated shallow cycling on the old pack — if you rarely ran it flat before recharging, the cells lose usable depth over time. A healthy 18V pack should hold above 16V under the trimmer's running load; if it drops below that, the pack needs replacing.

After leaving my AL-KO battery in the shed over winter, the charger just blinks and never starts charging. Is the pack dead?

Not necessarily — it means the cells have self-discharged below the charger's acceptance voltage during storage. AL-KO chargers typically refuse to charge a pack sitting below around 10–11V total. Try removing the pack and reseating it firmly every 30 seconds with the charger powered on; some units will attempt a trickle wake-up pulse on repeated insertion. If the charger has a recovery or conditioning mode, activate that. Once the cells recover above the acceptance threshold, the charger will begin a normal cycle and the LED will switch to its standard charging indication.
