Fits Alinco DJ-CH20, DJ-CH20B, DJ-CH20S, DJ-CH27 and 19 other models; replaces OEM EBP-80 and EBP-90 battery packs.
3.7V Li-ion cell at 1200mAh delivers 4.44Wh — enough capacity for typical patrol or dispatch shifts on the DJ-CH20 platform.
Connector type is Alinco proprietary; tab-lock slides in from the top and seats flush against the radio spine.
We bench-tested this EBP-80 equivalent on a DJ-CH20 transceiver; BMS accepted full charge cycle with no dock fault codes and held voltage steady under sustained transmission.
If the charger dock shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly — the Alinco platform requires a clean contact cycle to accept the new BMS handshake.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Alinco DJ-CH20 / DJ-CH27 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (EBP-80 / EBP-90)

This is a 3.7V, 1200mAh Li-ion battery pack for the Alinco DJ-CH20, DJ-CH20B, DJ-CH20S, DJ-CH27, and compatible variants. It replaces OEM part numbers EBP-80 and EBP-90. The pack slots into the same bay as the original and the BMS communicates with the radio's charge circuit directly.

  • DJ-CH20 and DJ-CH27 series compatibility: These models share the same battery bay geometry, contact layout, and 3.7V nominal voltage rail. One pack covers the full range because the BMS handshake protocol and connector pinout are identical across the series.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through transmit loads on the DJ-CH20 platform. The BMS held the voltage rail stable under PTT spikes and tripped correctly at the low-voltage cutoff threshold without locking the pack out.
  • First insertion into the charger dock: If the dock LED blinks or shows a fault on the first seating, remove the pack and wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth before reinserting. The Alinco dock runs a contact-continuity check before accepting a new BMS for the initial charge cycle.

Why the DJ-CH20 cuts out mid-transmission on a freshly installed EBP-80

New Li-ion cells ship at storage voltage — typically 3.6V to 3.65V — not at full charge. When PTT is pressed, transmit current spikes sharply and the BMS sees the voltage rail dip below its cutoff threshold before the cell has been conditioned. The radio interprets this as a depleted pack and shuts the TX stage. A full charge cycle before first use brings the cell to 4.2V and gives the BMS enough headroom to handle the transmit surge cleanly.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after fitting a new EBP-90

The DJ-CH20 reads bars from fixed voltage thresholds, not a fuel gauge chip. A new cell at storage voltage sits at approximately 3.6V, which maps to one or two bars on the radio's voltage ladder. This is not a fault with the pack. Charge the battery fully in the dock until the LED goes solid green, then reinsert — the indicator will reflect the correct 4.2V resting voltage and display the expected full-bar reading.

Frequently Asked Questions

My DJ-CH20 drops to low TX power halfway through a shift — is the new EBP-80 the problem?

This is voltage sag under sustained RF output, not a faulty pack. During extended transmissions, cell impedance causes the voltage rail to droop; the radio reduces TX power to stay within its operating window. It usually recovers between transmissions. If sag is frequent, check that the gold contacts on both the pack and the radio bay are clean and making full contact — a resistive connection amplifies the voltage drop at the source.

The charger dock LED never clears to green after inserting the new battery — it just keeps blinking.

A dock that never clears typically means the pack arrived below the dock's acceptance voltage threshold. Remove the pack, let it sit at room temperature for ten minutes, then reseat it firmly — a loose contact can prevent the dock from reading the BMS at all. If the LED still blinks, measure the pack voltage across the contacts with a multimeter; a reading above 3.0V means the pack is recoverable and the dock should accept it on a clean insertion.

After the radio sat unused for two months with the EBP-90 installed, it won't power on at all.

Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage, and if the pack dropped below roughly 2.5V the BMS enters a lockout state to prevent cell damage. Most Alinco charger docks will not initiate a charge on a pack this low. Remove the battery from the radio, place it in the dock alone, and watch for any LED activity within the first two minutes — some docks apply a slow recovery trickle before switching to normal charge mode. If the dock shows no response at all, measure the pack voltage; a reading below 2.5V means the cell has passed the BMS recovery threshold and the pack needs replacing.
