Fits AMC 3945/3945-B surveying instruments and replaces OEM part number 2140.19, 689139B00, or 694233.
This 9.6V, 3600mAh Ni-MH pack delivers the sustained output required for probe initialization and multi-sensor logging without voltage sag.
Connector seats vertically into the battery bay with a push-release locking tab; orient the contact terminals toward the rear wall.
We bench-tested this cell under continuous sensor draw — the BMS held voltage stable through probe startup current spikes without nuisance cutoff.
After installation, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before field deployment — the device maps battery state during calibration and skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings on the first measurement session.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

AMC 3945/3945-B Series — 9.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (2140.19)

This is a 9.6V, 3600mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for AMC surveying and measurement instruments. It fits the 3945, 3945-B, 8333, 8335, and 8336 models, along with five additional compatible units in the same instrument family. Voltage and connector match the original pack exactly.

  • 3945/3945-B and 8333–8336 series fit: These models share the same 9.6V eight-cell Ni-MH voltage rail, identical connector pinout, and the same current threshold in the instrument's power management circuit. One pack covers the full group without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through three charge-discharge sequences and monitored BMS handshake at probe initialisation. The cell stack held voltage above the instrument's low-battery cutoff through sustained sensor load without triggering a spurious shutdown.
  • Instrument calibration cycle before first field use: After installing this pack, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before taking it to site. The 3945 series maps battery state during calibration — skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings on your first measurement session, even with a fully charged pack.

BMS cutoff at probe or sensor initialisation on the 3945 series

When the 3945 powers up a probe module, it draws a short current spike as the sensor circuit initialises. A degraded or partially discharged Ni-MH pack can drop below the BMS cutoff threshold during that spike, causing the instrument to shut off immediately after probe connection. This is not a faulty instrument — it's a cell voltage sag event. A fully charged pack with healthy cells clears the initialisation spike without tripping the cutoff.

Readings drifting or logging session resetting mid-measurement

Under sustained sensor load during a logging session, an ageing pack develops a voltage dropout that falls below the 3945's operating floor. The instrument interprets this as a low-power event and resets the active session to protect data integrity. The fix is not a restart — it's a full charge before the session and a check that resting voltage reads at or above 10.8V after charging. If the pack won't hold above that threshold, the cells have fatigued beyond recovery and need replacing.

Frequently Asked Questions

My AMC 3945 powers on fine but shuts off the moment I connect the probe — is the new battery causing this?

This is a BMS cutoff triggered by the current spike when the probe circuit initialises. If the pack wasn't fully charged before first use, cell voltage sags just enough during that spike to trip the cutoff threshold. Charge the pack completely, then run the instrument's calibration cycle before connecting the probe. After calibration, resting voltage should read at or above 10.8V on a multimeter before you reconnect the probe.

My AMC 8335 won't recognise this pack at all after it sat in the carry case for several months — no charge, no power.

Ni-MH cells self-discharge during storage and can fall below the BMS recovery threshold after extended inactivity. The instrument's charger circuit won't initiate a charge cycle if it sees voltage too low to confirm a live pack. Try connecting the battery to a Ni-MH charger that supports a recovery or trickle-start mode — this brings cell voltage up to a level the standard circuit will accept. Once voltage recovers to the 9.0V–9.6V range, normal charging resumes.

During a USB data transfer from the AMC 3945-B to my PC, the instrument cuts out — the battery indicator looked fine before the transfer started.

USB data transfer adds a combined load on top of the active sensor circuit, and Ni-MH packs under partial charge sag under that combined draw. The instrument's display percentage is a voltage-threshold estimate, not a precise state-of-charge read — it can look acceptable until load increases. Charge fully before any transfer session and confirm resting voltage is at or above 10.8V. Start the transfer immediately after charging rather than after a measurement session.
