Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Archos 9 Tablet PC — 7.4V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (400238)
This 7.4V, 6000mAh Li-Polymer battery replaces OEM part numbers 400238 and 501500 in the Archos 9 and Archos 9 Tablet PC portable media players. It restores the device's ability to run untethered for video playback, photo browsing, and general media use. Capacity figure is taken directly from product specifications at 44.4Wh.
- Archos 9 and 9 Tablet PC fit: Both model designations use the same 7.4V two-cell Li-Polymer pack with identical connector pinout and BMS handshake voltage thresholds — one battery covers both variants without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran full charge and discharge cycles on the Archos 9 platform. The BMS correctly flagged over-voltage protection at the top of charge and cut discharge at the low-voltage threshold before cell damage could occur.
- First-install charge procedure for the Archos 9: Media players in storage frequently enter deep-discharge protection. On first install, connect the charger and leave it for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power on — the device needs a slow trickle to exit protection mode before it will accept normal charge current.
Battery percentage jumping after cell swap on the Archos 9
After fitting a replacement cell, the Archos 9's fuel gauge reads against a voltage-threshold map calibrated to the old, degraded pack. The new cells have a different discharge curve, so the displayed percentage can jump 10–20% between readings. Run two or three full charge-to-discharge cycles and the indicator recalibrates against the new cell's actual voltage curve. After recalibration, the gauge stabilises around 3.6–3.7V per cell at the midpoint of charge.
Playback cuts out before the battery indicator shows empty
The Archos 9's audio amplifier draws a spike of current at higher volume levels, which pulls the cell voltage down sharply at the tail end of discharge. The BMS interprets this voltage sag as a low-cell condition and trips the cutoff before the indicator reaches zero. Lowering playback volume by 20–30% during the last visible battery bar gives the cells enough headroom to avoid premature cutoff. If the problem persists after a fresh install, confirm cell resting voltage is above 7.0V before playback begins.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Archos 9 won't turn on after sitting unused for months — is the new battery dead already?
No — the Archos 9 enters a deep-discharge protection state after extended storage, and the replacement battery arrives at a partial charge that may be below the threshold the device needs to boot. Connect the charger and leave it plugged in for at least 30 minutes without pressing the power button. The BMS needs to accept a trickle charge before normal startup voltage is restored. After 30 minutes, hold the power button for a full 5 seconds.
The battery percentage on my Archos 9 jumps around erratically after fitting the new pack — is something wrong with the battery?
Nothing is wrong. The Archos 9's fuel gauge was calibrated to the discharge curve of the old, degraded cells. The new 6000mAh Li-Polymer pack has a flatter, healthier discharge curve, and the gauge misreads it until it recalibrates. Run two complete charge cycles — charge to full, use until the device shuts off on its own, then charge to full again. After two cycles the percentage reading will track the actual cell voltage correctly.
My Archos 9 drains noticeably faster when WiFi is on compared to video playback alone — is the battery undersized?
The battery is not undersized. WiFi radio draw on the Archos 9 platform runs 4–5 times higher than display-only draw, and running both simultaneously hits the pack harder than most users expect from a media player. This is normal behaviour for this hardware class. To extend a session, disable WiFi in the settings menu when streaming locally stored content — the draw drops immediately and the battery voltage holds steadier across the discharge curve.
