Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Asus Eee PC S101 — 7.4V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (AP22-U1001)

This is a 7.4V, 4900mAh (36.26Wh) Li-Polymer replacement battery for the Asus Eee PC S101 netbook. It uses OEM part number AP22-U1001 and also cross-references B2, YS1, and 890AAQ566970. The battery slots into the S101 and EPCS101-BPN003X without modification.

  • Eee PC S101 and EPCS101-BPN003X compatibility: Both units run the same 7.4V battery rail, use the same connector pinout, and communicate with the same BMS handshake protocol — one cell fits both without adaptation.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge, discharge, and BMS interrogation on the S101 platform. The protection circuit responded correctly to overvoltage and cutoff triggers, and BIOS recognised the battery without errors on a fresh boot.
  • First-cycle calibration on the S101: After fitting this cell, run it down until the system hibernates, then charge it uninterrupted to 100%. This forces the S101's fuel gauge IC to relearn the new cell's capacity curve and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap.

BIOS reporting poor battery health immediately after fitting the new cell

The S101's BIOS reads health data from EEPROM stored on the old cell's protection circuit. When a new cell is installed, the EEPROM contains no learned data, so BIOS flags it as degraded or unknown — not because the cell is faulty. Running one full discharge-to-hibernate followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% writes fresh calibration data. After one or two cycles, BIOS health status updates to reflect actual capacity. No firmware update or BIOS reset is required.

S101 shutting down without warning at 20–30% charge shown

This happens when the cell voltage drops faster than the fuel gauge IC predicts under combined CPU and display load. The gauge was calibrated to the old cell's voltage curve, so it shows 25% remaining while actual cell voltage has already hit the cutoff threshold. The system shuts down to protect the cell — it is not a firmware fault or a faulty replacement. Run two full discharge-to-hibernate cycles and the fuel gauge IC will remap the cutoff point against the new cell, typically stabilising around 3.5V per cell before shutdown.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Eee PC S101 BIOS shows the new battery as 0% or "unknown" straight after fitting — is the cell dead on arrival?

No — the S101 reads capacity data from EEPROM on the battery's protection circuit, and a new cell carries no learned data yet. BIOS interprets that blank state as an unknown or failed battery. Run the cell down until the system hibernates, then charge it fully without interruption to 100%. After that first complete cycle, BIOS will write fresh data and display a correct health reading.

Why does the Eee PC S101 report a different Wh rating in system info than what the battery lists?

The Wh figure shown in Windows or Linux power settings is pulled from the battery's EEPROM, which stores the rated design capacity from the original cell's firmware — not the measured output of the replacement. This is an EEPROM data mismatch, not a defect. After one or two full calibration cycles, the fuel gauge IC updates its learned capacity and the reported Wh figure will align more closely with the actual 36.26Wh of this cell.

The S101's charge stops at around 80% and never reaches 100% — what is causing that?

The S101's BIOS includes a charge limit function that can cap charging at 80% to reduce cell stress during long plug-in periods. Check the Asus power management settings or BIOS under the battery health charging option — it is often enabled by default after a system reset. Disable the charge limit there and unplug, then reconnect the charger. The battery will then charge through to 100%.
