Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Asus K401 Series — 11.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (B31N1424)
This is an 11.4V 4200mAh (47.88Wh) Li-ion replacement battery for the Asus VivoBook K401 series, including the K401LB, K401LB5010, and K401LB5200. It replaces OEM part numbers B31N1424 and 0B200-01390000. Fits the compact three-cell configuration used across this ultrabook lineup.
- K401 series compatibility: All models in this lineup share the same 11.4V three-cell architecture, B31N1424 connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — the same replacement cell covers the full range without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a K401LB unit. The BMS accepted the new cell cleanly, protection thresholds triggered correctly at both ends, and the charge IC reached termination without fault flags.
- First-cycle calibration on the K401: After fitting, run the laptop on battery until it hibernates from low charge, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without interruption. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap on this platform.
Why the K401 shuts down at 20–30% after a battery swap
The K401's fuel gauge IC builds a capacity model from the previous cell's discharge curve. A new cell has different internal resistance and a steeper voltage cliff at lower states of charge. The BIOS reads the old curve, sees a voltage drop it doesn't expect, and triggers a protective shutdown before the cell is actually empty. Running two full discharge-to-hibernate and full recharge cycles forces the fuel gauge to rebuild its model against the new cell's actual curve.
BIOS reporting battery health as poor or unknown after fitting a new cell
The K401's BIOS reads health status from EEPROM data written during the original cell's service life — cycle count, capacity fade history, and wear flags are all stored there. A new cell doesn't overwrite that data automatically. The "poor health" flag reflects the old cell's recorded state, not the physical condition of the replacement. Complete one full learn cycle — discharge to hibernate cutoff, then charge to 100% uninterrupted — and the BIOS will rewrite the health register against the new cell's baseline.

Frequently Asked Questions
The K401 is shutting down at around 25% battery shown — why does this keep happening with a new cell?
The fuel gauge IC on the K401 still has the old cell's discharge curve in memory. When the new cell's voltage drops faster than that stored curve predicts near the bottom of charge, the BIOS calls it a cutoff condition and shuts down early. Run two full cycles — discharge to hibernate, then charge uninterrupted to 100% — and the fuel gauge will recalibrate against the new cell. After two cycles the reported percentage and actual shutdown point will align.
My K401 shows the new battery Wh rating as lower than the spec — the system info says 42Wh but the battery is rated 47.88Wh. Is the cell wrong?
The Wh figure shown in Windows or the BIOS is pulled from the EEPROM on the battery controller, which stores a rated value written during cell manufacturing. The 47.88Wh on the spec sheet is the nominal rated capacity under controlled discharge conditions. A small difference between EEPROM-stored Wh and nameplate Wh is normal and does not affect actual charge capacity. If the gap is larger than 10%, run a full discharge-to-hibernate cycle and check again — the fuel gauge IC updates its stored value after a completed learn cycle.
The new battery stopped charging at 80% and won't go higher — is the cell defective?
On many Asus ultrabooks including the K401, the BIOS includes a battery charge limit setting that caps charging at 80% to reduce long-term cell stress when the laptop is used plugged in frequently. This is a firmware control, not a fault with the cell. Open MyASUS or Asus Battery Health Charging in Windows, check whether "Balanced Mode" or "Maximum Lifespan Mode" is active, and switch to "Full Capacity Mode" to allow charging to 100%.
