Asus N82 Series — 10.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (A32-N82)

This is a 10.8V, 4400mAh (47.52Wh) Li-ion battery for the Asus N82 notebook line. It fits the N82, N82E, N82EI, and N82J among other N82 variants. It replaces OEM part numbers A32-N82, A42-N82, and 07G016G81875.

  • N82 series compatibility: All N82 variants share the same 10.8V battery rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. Swapping between N82 sub-models carries no electrical risk — the cell slots in and communicates with the EC chip the same way across the range.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on N82 hardware. The BMS responded correctly at both low-voltage cutoff and full-charge termination, with no false protection trips during normal load.
  • First-use calibration on the N82: After installing, run one full discharge to hibernate-cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after a cell swap.

Why the N82 BIOS reports poor battery health after a cell swap

The N82 EC chip reads charge history and wear data stored in the old cell's EEPROM. When a new cell goes in, that data is blank or mismatched, so the BIOS flags it as degraded before it has any real data to work with. This is not a fault with the replacement cell. Running the full discharge-to-cutoff then uninterrupted charge cycle gives the EC enough data to recalibrate and clear the warning. After two to three full cycles, health reporting normalises.

N82 shutting down at 20–30% battery remaining

This happens when the fuel gauge IC has not yet calibrated against the new cell's actual voltage curve. The OS reads the old curve and calls empty too early, triggering a shutdown while usable charge remains. It is not a cell defect — it is a calibration lag. Run two complete discharge and charge cycles without interruption, and the fuel gauge IC will map the new cell's voltage profile accurately. After calibration, the 20–30% cutoff disappears and the gauge tracks correctly down to the true low-voltage threshold near 9.9V.

The Asus N82 is showing the battery Wh rating as wrong in system info after I swapped the cell — is the battery faulty?

The Wh figure shown in system info comes from EEPROM data embedded in the cell, which may reflect a rated chemistry value rather than the exact measured capacity of the new cell. This is a reporting difference, not a fault. The actual stored energy in the cell matches the 47.52Wh spec. No action is needed — the discrepancy does not affect charge behaviour or how the cell delivers power.

My N82 charges to 80% and then stops — it never reaches 100% after the replacement.

Some N82 BIOS versions include a charge limit setting that caps charging at 80% to reduce long-term cell stress. This is a firmware-controlled behaviour, not a battery fault. Check the Asus battery care utility or BIOS power settings under the battery health charging option. Disabling that setting or switching to full-capacity mode will allow the cell to charge to 100%.

The fuel gauge on my N82 is jumping around wildly — showing 60%, then 90%, then 45% within minutes.

The fuel gauge IC on the N82 uses historical discharge data to estimate remaining charge. After a cell swap, that historical data does not match the new cell's actual voltage curve, so the gauge produces erratic readings. This settles after two to three complete discharge and charge cycles as the IC builds an accurate profile of the new cell. Run the laptop on battery until it hibernates, then charge uninterrupted to 100%, and repeat — readings stabilise by the third cycle.
