Velocity 2 won't power on after sitting unused

Li-Polymer cells self-discharge at roughly 1–3% per month. If the Velocity 2 sits unused for several months, the battery can drop below the minimum boot voltage — typically around 3.0V per cell — and the BMS locks out discharge to prevent damage. The device will appear completely dead even when placed on charge. Connect the hotspot to a charger for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power it on; this allows the BMS to detect safe voltage and re-enable the discharge path. If the indicator light does not respond after 60 minutes on charge, the original cell has likely reached end-of-life.

Yes, this is a known failure pattern when the battery can no longer sustain peak current draw. When signal is weak and multiple devices are connected, the modem and Wi-Fi radio pull maximum power at the same time, causing a momentary voltage sag that trips the BMS and restarts the radio stack. A fresh 3000mAh cell at the correct 3.85V restores the current headroom the device needs. Log into the hotspot at 192.168.1.1 and check the battery health indicator before swapping to confirm.

The Velocity 2 battery seems to drain much faster when I'm in a poor signal area — is something wrong with this replacement cell?

Nothing is wrong with the cell — this is the cellular radio behaving normally. In poor signal areas the modem ramps transmit power to its maximum output trying to maintain the LTE connection, which can double or triple the draw compared to a strong-signal environment. The same 3000mAh capacity simply depletes faster under that sustained high load. Move the hotspot closer to a window or elevated position to improve signal; lower transmit power directly reduces battery drain rate.

The Velocity 2 won't turn on at all after I installed the new battery — no lights, nothing.

This usually means the replacement cell arrived in a low-charge state and the BMS has not yet enabled the discharge path. Connect the hotspot to its original charger and leave it for 30–45 minutes without pressing the power button. The charge circuit needs to bring the cell above approximately 3.4V before the BMS allows discharge and the firmware can boot.
