This is a 3.7V, 900mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Bang & Olufsen Beocom 5 cordless DECT handset. It replaces OEM part number 3160585. The Beocom 5 is a single-handset cordless phone system, and this cell fits directly into the handset battery compartment.

Talk time shorter than expected after fitting the new battery

After a few cycles on the new battery, the controller recalibrates and talk time should reflect the rated 900mAh capacity.

Beocom 5 handset loses DECT pairing after battery replacement

Removing the battery completely cuts power to the handset's volatile memory. Some DECT handsets store pairing data in RAM-backed registers, and a full power loss clears them. If the Beocom 5 shows "searching" or fails to connect to the base after the swap, re-register the handset from the base station menu. The pairing procedure takes under two minutes and restores full operation.

My Beocom 5 is draining overnight even when it's sitting in the base — is that the new battery?

A new Li-ion cell has very low self-discharge, so overnight drain almost always points to a seating issue rather than the battery itself. If the handset is not fully seated in the base cradle, the charging contacts don't connect and the handset runs on battery the entire time. Remove the handset, clean the base charging pins with a dry cloth, and re-seat the handset until it clicks into position — the charge indicator should appear on screen within a few seconds.

The base station shows no charge light after I installed the replacement battery — what's wrong?

This happens when the replacement cell arrives at a voltage lower than the Beocom 5 base station's charge-acceptance threshold. The base expects to see a minimum cell voltage before it initiates the charge cycle. Leave the handset seated in the base for 30 minutes without touching it — most Li-ion charge controllers will attempt a trickle pre-charge to bring the cell up to acceptance voltage, after which the normal charge indicator should appear. If the cell is above 2.5V, this recovery process will complete on its own.

The Beocom 5 cuts out mid-call and reboots — could the battery be causing this?

Yes. During a DECT transmission burst, the radio draws a short spike of current. If the battery connections are not clean or fully seated, that spike causes a momentary voltage drop that the handset interprets as a low-battery shutdown. Remove the battery, check the gold contact pads on both the battery and the handset for debris or oxidation, and reseat firmly. If the problem stops after reseating, the contacts were the cause — not the cell capacity.
