Fits Baofeng UV3R, UV-3R, BF-T6, and C5 models; replaces OEM BL-3 battery pack.
3.7V, 1200mAh lithium-ion cell delivers the voltage and capacity your UV3R needs for full TX power output.
Connector slides straight into the radio's battery slot with a single locking tab; no modification required.
We ran load cycles on a bench UV3R radio; the BMS accepted the pack on first insertion with no fault delay.
If the Baofeng charger dock shows a fault LED after inserting this cell, remove and reseat — the platform needs a clean contact cycle to accept the new BMS handshake before charging begins.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Baofeng UV3R / BF-T6 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BL-3)

This is a 3.7V, 1200mAh Li-ion battery using Baofeng's BL-3 form factor. It fits the UV3R, UV-3R, BF-T6, and C5 handheld two-way radios. Slot it in where the original BL-3 sat and the radio powers on normally.

  • UV3R and BF-T6 platform fit: Both radios share the same BL-3 slot dimensions, 3.7V nominal rail, and contact layout. One pack covers either unit without adapters or modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through a transmit cycle on the UV3R. The BMS held stable through repeated PTT presses and did not trigger overcurrent cutoff under normal TX load.
  • First contact insertion on the UV3R charger cradle: If the cradle LED flashes or shows a fault on first insertion, remove the pack, wipe the three contact pads on the battery with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The cradle needs a clean contact cycle to read the new pack's BMS state before it begins charging.

Why the UV3R cuts out when you hold PTT on a fresh BL-3

A new BL-3 ships at storage voltage — typically around 3.6V to 3.65V, not a full 4.2V charge. When you press PTT, the UV3R draws a short current spike to drive the RF output stage. At storage voltage, internal cell impedance is slightly higher, and the BMS may interpret that spike as an overcurrent event and cut the pack. Charge the battery fully in the cradle before first transmit use. Once at 4.2V, the spike sits well within the BMS threshold and cutout stops.

UV3R bar indicator drops one bar immediately after inserting a new pack

The UV3R uses a simple voltage-threshold bar display — it reads resting cell voltage and maps it to bars. A new pack at storage voltage (around 3.6V) sits one threshold below a freshly charged cell at 4.2V, so the radio shows one fewer bar than expected. This is not a fault with the pack. Charge the battery fully in the cradle until the LED goes green, then reinsert — the indicator will read the correct bar level against the 4.2V resting voltage.

Frequently Asked Questions

My UV3R cuts out every time I press PTT — is the new BL-3 pack faulty?

Almost always, no. The pack ships at storage voltage, around 3.6V, and the UV3R's transmit spike draws enough current at that voltage to trip the BMS overcurrent threshold. Charge the pack fully in the cradle until the LED goes green before you transmit. Once the cell is at 4.2V, the BMS threshold clears and the cutout stops.

The UV3R cradle LED keeps blinking and won't start charging the new BL-3 — what's wrong?

The cradle checks the battery contact pads before it begins a charge cycle. Oxidation or dust on the three gold pads breaks the circuit and the dock never accepts the pack. Remove the battery, wipe the contact pads with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly until you feel the clip engage. The LED should go solid within a few seconds of clean contact.

The UV3R is transmitting at noticeably lower volume and the signal sounds weak mid-conversation — is this a battery issue?

Yes — this is voltage sag under sustained RF output. As the cell discharges past roughly 3.5V under TX load, the UV3R can no longer maintain full output power and drops to a reduced level. The fix is to recharge before the bar indicator hits one bar. Running the pack down to that point regularly accelerates capacity fade, so charge when you see two bars remaining.
