Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Besam Unislide / Unislide II Sliding Door — 12V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (45A020BA00004)
This 12V 1500mAh Ni-MH battery replaces the backup power cell in Besam Unislide and Unislide II automatic sliding door operators, as well as EXU1 and EXU3 units. It holds the backup circuit charged so the door can complete full open and close cycles during a mains failure. Capacity is 18Wh at 12V nominal.
- Unislide and EXU platform fit: The Unislide, Unislide II, EXU1, and EXU3 controllers share the same 12V backup rail and battery bay connector. All use OEM part 45A020BA00004 — also cross-referenced as 33550475, 550473, 550475, and MFH9001 depending on the supply chain source.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the Besam backup circuit under a full motor load. The BMS accepted charge without fault flags, and the battery sustained the voltage rail through multiple complete door cycles without tripping the low-voltage cutoff.
- Power-fail verification at installation: After fitting the battery, manually interrupt mains power during a low-traffic period and let the controller run through at least one full open-and-close cycle. Automatic door backup systems must be load-tested at installation — a battery that reads charged on a multimeter can still fail to deliver peak current during motor start.
Door controller losing programming after a power outage
Besam Unislide controllers store door timing, obstacle sensitivity, and hold-open settings in volatile RAM. That RAM is kept alive by the backup battery during mains loss. When the backup battery is deeply discharged or has failed entirely, even a brief power interruption wipes those settings. If the door reverts to factory defaults after every outage, the battery is the first thing to check — not the controller board. A healthy battery at rest should read between 12.0V and 13.2V on a multimeter; anything below 11.5V means the cell can no longer hold the memory rail.
Battery backup not activating during mains failure
If the door goes dead the moment mains power drops, the backup circuit is not switching over — or the battery has insufficient charge to trigger it. The Besam backup circuit requires the battery to be above its activation threshold voltage before it will engage the transfer relay. A battery that has sat uncharged for months may read low enough that the controller ignores it entirely. Fit the new battery, allow 24 hours on charge with the controller powered, then run a mains-interrupt test to confirm the relay engages and the door completes a full cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my Besam Unislide door stop halfway through the cycle when the power goes out?
An incomplete cycle on battery backup almost always means the battery can no longer sustain voltage under the peak current draw of the motor. At mid-cycle, motor load spikes and the depleted cell sags below the controller's low-voltage cutoff, killing the drive signal. A new battery needs a full 24-hour charge before the first power-fail test — a partially charged Ni-MH cell will often pass a no-load voltage check but still collapse under motor start current. After charging, interrupt mains power and confirm the door completes at least two full open-and-close cycles without stalling.
The Besam controller resets to factory defaults every time the power blinks — what's causing it?
Door timing, sensitivity thresholds, and hold-open delay are stored in volatile RAM on the Unislide controller board. The backup battery keeps that RAM alive during any interruption to mains power. When the battery is depleted or failed, even a half-second brownout is enough to wipe all settings. Measure the battery at rest with a multimeter — a healthy 12V Ni-MH pack should sit between 12.0V and 13.2V; below 11.5V, the cell can no longer back the memory rail reliably. Replace the battery and reprogram the controller once it has taken a full charge.
The door moves noticeably slower than usual when running on battery backup — is something wrong?
Reduced speed during backup operation is normal behaviour on Besam Unislide units. The controller deliberately throttles motor speed when running from the backup battery to reduce current draw and allow the door to complete more cycles before voltage drops too low. If the door is slower than usual but still completes full open and close cycles, the battery and controller are working as intended. If the door is slow AND failing to complete a full cycle, check resting battery voltage — it should read above 12.0V after a full charge.
