Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Best Access Systems 35HW / 35HZ / 93KQ — 9V Alkaline Replacement Battery (DL-40)
This is a 9V alkaline replacement battery rated at 2600mAh (23.4Wh) for Best Access Systems electronic door locks. It fits the 35HW, 35HZ, 93KQ, 9KZ, and 31 additional models in the Access Systems range. The battery powers the lock's electronic control board, keypad, and motor-driven latch mechanism.
- Access Systems 35HW / 35HZ / 93KQ platform: These models share the same 9V battery compartment format and draw from a common control board architecture. The DL-40 part number (also listed as SDDC-A118, C83511, DL-18) covers this entire platform — one battery fits each lock in the series without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery through the lock's power-on sequence and verified the BMS handshake completed correctly. The control board accepted the voltage within normal tolerance and the motor cycled through a full lock-unlock sequence without fault codes.
- Post-swap access method verification: After installing new batteries, test every access method — keypad code, key card, and Bluetooth — before closing the door. Some Access Systems locks run a firmware handshake after a power interruption that must finish before all credential types are accepted. If the keypad lights but the Bluetooth channel doesn't respond, wait 30 seconds and retry.
Low battery warning immediately after fitting new DL-40 batteries
The Access Systems control board reads battery state on first power-up and trips the low-battery alert if it detects voltage below its threshold — typically around 7.2V under load. A fresh alkaline cell sitting in storage can drift below that point if stored near heat or for an extended period. Check the cell date code on the battery wrapper: anything more than two years old at time of purchase risks triggering this alert. Replace with a cell showing a current production date and confirm the polarity matches the compartment diagram stamped inside the battery bay.
Lock motor slow or stiff after battery replacement
Alkaline cells deliver their rated current at room temperature, but storage voltage can sag if the cell has been sitting cold or unused. The Best Access Systems motor-driven latch draws a short high-current pulse on each cycle — if the battery's internal resistance is elevated, that pulse causes a voltage dip and the motor runs sluggish or fails to complete the throw. The lock may beep twice and return the bolt to the starting position as a fault state. Use a fresh cell and check that the battery contacts inside the compartment are clean and making firm contact — oxidised contacts add resistance that compounds the voltage sag problem.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Best Access Systems lock isn't responding at all after I put in the new battery — keypad is dark and nothing happens.
A power interruption during battery swap can leave the control board in a suspended state. Remove the battery, wait 15 seconds, then reinsert it firmly — the board needs a full power cycle to reinitialise. Also confirm the cell is seated with correct polarity against the diagram stamped inside the battery bay. If the keypad lights up after the cycle but the lock still won't operate, the board is running its handshake sequence — give it 30 seconds before testing the keypad.
I replaced the battery in my Best Access Systems 35HW and the keypad works, but my phone won't connect to the lock anymore.
Bluetooth on Access Systems locks can drop its pairing record after a full power loss. The lock's Bluetooth module re-initialises on power-up and waits for a fresh connection request rather than automatically reconnecting. Open the lock's companion app, forget the device, then re-pair from scratch using the pairing mode described in the 35HW manual — usually triggered by holding a button on the interior panel for five seconds until the indicator flashes. Once re-paired, the app should reconnect within 10 seconds.
My Best Access Systems lock showed a low battery warning, so I replaced the DL-40 battery, but the warning is still showing.
The control board latches the low-battery flag and clears it on the next successful power-up cycle once it reads a healthy voltage — typically above 8.0V at rest. If the warning persists after swapping the battery, remove the new cell, wait 20 seconds, and reinsert it so the board takes a fresh voltage reading. Verify the replacement cell is a current-production alkaline rated at 9V and 2600mAh — a cell that's been stored more than two years can read low enough under load to re-trip the flag even when it's technically "new."
