Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Bullard PA30 PAPR — 6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (PA3BP)
This is a 6V, 3500mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Bullard PA30 Powered Air-Purifying Respirator. It fits the PA30 PAPR and Tri-Filter configurations. The PA3BP slot accepts this cell directly — same footprint, same connector, same BMS handshake.
- PA30 PAPR and Tri-Filter compatibility: Both configurations draw from the same 6V rail and use the same PA3BP battery housing. The blower motor, thermal imaging circuit, and display all share this single supply — there is no separate battery compartment for either function.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through combined blower and thermal detector load cycles. The BMS held stable across motor-start surge and continuous detector draw without tripping into protection mode.
- Ni-MH discharge care for PAPR use: Do not leave the PA30 sitting idle on a partially discharged pack. Ni-MH cells in standby develop voltage depression faster than under active cycling — run the pack to near-full depletion periodically to keep cell balance consistent across the pack.
PA30 thermal detector losing accuracy before the battery indicator drops
The PA30's thermal detector is voltage-sensitive — it draws a calibrated heating current to hold the sensor at a stable reference temperature. As cell voltage sags under combined blower and detector load, that heating current becomes inconsistent before the battery gauge registers low. The result is thermal drift: temperature readings shift by several degrees without any low-battery warning. If readings feel off during a sweep, check the actual pack voltage at the charge port — anything below 5.4V under load will affect detector accuracy even if the indicator still shows charge remaining.
PA30 blower cutting out during heavy exertion while thermal image stays on
The blower motor draws a hard spike on startup and again when airflow demand increases — deep breathing cycles cause repeated motor surges on the same 6V rail. The BMS will trip into protection mode if that surge coincides with a low state of charge, cutting motor power while the display circuit stays live on residual voltage. This is a BMS overcurrent response, not a motor fault. Recharge the pack fully — to 7.2V open-circuit on a Ni-MH 6V pack — before returning the unit to service.

Frequently Asked Questions
My PA30 thermal image is showing temperature drift mid-inspection but the battery indicator still reads full — what's going on?
The thermal detector in the PA30 relies on a stable heating current to hold its sensor at a calibrated reference point. When the pack voltage sags under combined blower and detector load, that heating current drops before the battery gauge catches up. The indicator is reading state of charge, not voltage under load — those diverge as the pack ages. Check open-circuit voltage after a full charge: a healthy PA3BP Ni-MH pack should read at least 7.2V before use.
The PA30 housing gets noticeably warm after 30–40 minutes of continuous use — is that a battery issue?
The thermal detector heating element and the blower motor run simultaneously from the same 6V pack, and that combined draw generates real heat inside the housing. If the pack itself is warm to the touch at the battery compartment, the cells are working harder than they should — typically a sign of internal resistance increasing as the pack ages. A fresh PA3BP cell runs cooler because it delivers the required current with less internal voltage drop. If the housing stays warm even with a new pack, check for blocked intake vents on the blower assembly.
My replacement PA3BP battery drains much faster than the original — the blower slows down before I expect it to. What causes this?
Ni-MH packs can arrive from storage in a partially discharged or voltage-depressed state, which shortens the first few cycles significantly. Run two full charge-discharge cycles on the PA30 charger before judging capacity — Ni-MH cells recover usable capacity through active cycling, not sitting on charge. If drain is still noticeably short after two conditioning cycles, verify the charger is reaching a full termination charge: the pack should feel slightly warm at the end of charge and the charger light should indicate completion, not just connection.
