Fits Canon ES-60, ES-65, ES-75, ES-410 and twelve other camcorder models as OEM replacement BP-85.
7.4V lithium-ion at 4000mAh delivers stable voltage throughout recording sessions without mid-shoot sag.
Connector type matches Canon's proprietary slot with positive terminal contact and locking tab alignment verified.
Bench testing showed clean BMS handshake on first insertion; voltage curve tracked steady across discharge cycles.
On first use, run one full charge cycle inside the camera body — Canon's firmware needs that initial charge handshake to display accurate battery percentage on the LCD screen.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Canon ES-60 / ES-65 / ES-75 / ES-410 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BP-85)

This is a 7.4V, 4000mAh (29.6Wh) lithium-ion battery built to fit Canon ES-series camcorders, including the ES-60, ES-65, ES-75, and ES-410. It replaces the Canon OEM part BP-85. Use it for recording and playback when the original cell no longer holds a usable charge.

  • ES-series camcorder fit: These camcorders share the same battery bay geometry, contact layout, and 7.4V power rail. A single BP-85-format cell works across all of them without any mechanical modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on ES-series hardware. The BMS engaged correctly at both the low-voltage cutoff and the full-charge ceiling with no anomalous trips.
  • First-install charge cycle on ES camcorders: Insert the battery and run one complete charge through the Canon OEM charger or directly via the camcorder body before your first recording session. Some ES-series BMS firmware requires this cycle to begin tracking remaining capacity accurately on the display indicator.

Canon ES camcorder rejecting a third-party BP-85 cell on first install

Canon ES-series camcorders run a basic BMS handshake when a new cell is seated. If the body hasn't seen the cell go through a charge cycle yet, it may display a battery warning or show zero charge even on a partially charged replacement. This is a firmware-level recognition issue, not a faulty cell. Seat the battery, connect the OEM charger, and let it complete one full charge from the charger rather than from USB or a third-party adapter. After that cycle, the camcorder body reads the cell correctly.

Battery percentage jumping or resetting mid-session on the ES-60

The ES-60 maps its remaining-charge indicator to a discharge curve calibrated against the original OEM cell. A new replacement cell — even one at the correct voltage — has a slightly different discharge curve until it has completed two or three full cycles. This causes the indicator to jump between charge levels non-linearly or reset unexpectedly. Run two full charge-discharge cycles and the indicator will stabilise. After conditioning, the camcorder reads the cell at its actual state of charge, starting from a resting voltage of approximately 8.3V at full charge.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Canon ES-60 shows a battery error on the screen right after I put the new BP-85 battery in — is the cell dead?

It's not dead. The ES-60 runs a handshake check when a new cell is first seated, and without a completed charge cycle in the OEM charger it can flag an unrecognised cell. Insert the battery, connect the Canon charger, and let it run a full charge to 8.4V before powering the camcorder on. One full cycle through the OEM charger is usually enough for the body to accept the replacement cell without errors.

The remaining battery display on my ES-65 is jumping around — it shows 80%, drops to 40%, then jumps back up. What's wrong?

The ES-65 maps its charge indicator to the OEM cell's discharge curve, and a new replacement cell discharges on a slightly different voltage profile until it's been cycled a few times. The indicator loses its reference point mid-discharge and jumps accordingly. Run two full charge-discharge cycles — full charge to 8.4V, then record until the camcorder shuts off on low-voltage cutoff — and the display will track steadily from that point on.

My ES-410 drains the new battery much faster in cold weather than indoors. Is something wrong with the cell?

Nothing is wrong. Li-ion cells lose usable capacity as temperature drops because ion mobility in the electrolyte slows down, reducing the amount of charge the cell can deliver before hitting the BMS low-voltage cutoff. Below about 10°C, the effective capacity of any Li-ion cell shrinks noticeably. Keep the camcorder body warm between takes — inside a jacket works — and the cell will recover closer to its rated 4000mAh once the core temperature rises back above 15°C.
