Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Canon PowerShot G5 X Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (NB-13L)
This is a 3.7V, 1050mAh Li-ion replacement cell for the NB-13L battery slot. It fits the Canon PowerShot G5 X, G5 X Mark II, G1 X Mark III, and over 20 additional PowerShot bodies that share the same NB-13L footprint. Voltage and capacity match OEM spec exactly.
- G5 X and G1 X Mark III shared platform: These models use the same NB-13L voltage rail, connector pin layout, and BMS handshake protocol. One cell covers the full group — no hardware differences between them at the battery interface.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through the G5 X body and OEM charger. The BMS accepted the cell, charge termination triggered correctly at 4.2V, and the battery-remaining indicator mapped without faults across the full discharge cycle.
- First-use charge cycle on NB-13L bodies: Charge this cell fully inside the camera body or OEM charger before your first shoot. Canon's BMS on these compact bodies calibrates the battery-remaining display during the first in-body charge cycle — skipping this step causes the indicator to read inaccurately from the start.
Flash capacitor recharge and current sag at low cell voltage
The built-in flash on the G5 X draws a sharp recharge current spike after each shot. When cell voltage drops toward 3.5V late in the discharge cycle, that spike pulls more current than the BMS comfortably delivers. The result is slower flash recycle time and, in some cases, a low-battery warning triggered by the voltage dip rather than actual depletion. Keeping the cell above 3.6V during flash-heavy sessions avoids this. If recycle lag appears, swap the cell before the indicator hits the final bar.
Battery percentage jumping erratically on the G5 X display
This happens when the camera's voltage-threshold table doesn't yet map accurately to the new cell's discharge curve. The OEM indicator was calibrated against the original NB-13L's specific internal resistance profile. A new cell — especially one not yet cycled — can read 60%, drop to 30%, then recover to 50% within minutes. Run one full charge-to-discharge cycle in the camera body and the indicator stabilises. After that cycle, percentage steps should track smoothly down to the 3.0V cutoff.

Frequently Asked Questions
My G5 X shows "No Battery" or won't power on after I installed the new NB-13L — what's wrong?
Canon's compact body BMS runs an authentication check on first contact with a new cell, and it can reject the cell if the first connection happens with a low or unrecognised voltage state. Place the battery in the OEM charger and charge it fully before inserting it into the camera. Once the charger has completed a full cycle and the cell sits at 4.2V, reinsert it into the G5 X body and power on. That single charge cycle clears the rejection state in almost every case.
My shot count is much lower than expected — is the cell faulty?
Shot count specs are calculated under controlled conditions without flash, with the EVF off, and with minimal continuous autofocus. On the G5 X, enabling optical image stabilisation, using the electronic viewfinder, and shooting video simultaneously can more than double the draw per minute compared to the rated test. The cell capacity is correct at 1050mAh — check which features are active during your shoot and reduce EVF and stabilisation use when maximising shot count matters.
The G5 X body gets warm during sustained video recording and drains the battery faster than during stills — is that normal?
Yes, and it's specific to how the G5 X loads the cell under video. The image sensor, DIGIC processor, image stabilisation, and continuous autofocus all draw simultaneously during video, pulling significantly more current than a stills burst. That combined draw generates heat in both the body and the cell, which raises internal resistance slightly and reduces effective capacity at that load. Keep clips under 10 minutes in warm environments and allow the body to cool between long takes to keep cell temperature — and discharge rate — in check.
