Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Panasonic HDC-HS300 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (VW-VBG6)

This is a 7.4V, 7800mAh (57.72Wh) Li-ion battery for the Panasonic HDC-HS300 and related HD camcorders including the HDC-TM300, HDC-HS250, and HDC-SD100. It replaces OEM part numbers VW-VBG6, VW-VBG6-K, VW-VBG6PPK, and VW-VBG6GK. Same voltage rail and connector as the factory pack.

  • HDC-HS/TM/SD series compatibility: These camcorders share the same 7.4V battery bay and BMS handshake protocol across the lineup. One pack covers the full range because Panasonic standardised the connector and charge logic across these models.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the HDC-HS300 body. The BMS accepted the pack on first install, reported charge state correctly, and cutoff at the expected low-voltage threshold without forced shutdown events.
  • First-install charge cycle on the HDC-HS300: Perform one full charge cycle through the camera body or OEM charger before heavy recording. The HDC-HS300 BMS maps its battery-remaining display to the discharge curve — skipping this step can cause the indicator to read inaccurately for the first several uses.

Why the HDC-HS300 battery percentage jumps or reads incorrectly after a swap

The HDC-HS300 uses a voltage-threshold system to estimate remaining capacity. A new cell has a slightly different discharge curve than an aged OEM pack, so the camera's indicator can misread the state of charge early on. The fix is straightforward: run two or three full charge-to-depletion cycles through the camera body. After that, the BMS recalibrates its thresholds against the new cell's actual curve and the display stabilises.

This happens when the replacement cell arrives at a storage charge — typically around 3.6–3.8V per cell — and the camera's BMS interprets that as near-empty based on its low-voltage cutoff map. The camera is not rejecting the battery; it is misreading an unfamiliar starting voltage. Charge the pack fully in the OEM charger first, then insert it into the camera body. Once the BMS sees a full 8.2–8.4V at the terminals, the indicator resets and reads correctly from that point forward.

Frequently Asked Questions

My HDC-HS300 shows a flashing battery icon and shuts down even though the replacement pack was just charged — what's happening?

The HDC-HS300 BMS can trigger a false low-voltage shutdown if the pack wasn't charged inside the camera body or OEM charger on first use. The camera's threshold map expects a specific charge signature it didn't get. Pull the battery, charge it fully in the OEM charger until the indicator light confirms completion, then reinsert. The camera should hold voltage above the 7.0V cutoff and stop shutting down.

The battery percentage on my HDC-HS300 jumps from 80% straight to 20% with no warning — is the replacement cell faulty?

It's not a faulty cell — it's the camera's voltage-threshold indicator mapping a new discharge curve it hasn't calibrated to yet. The HDC-HS300 estimates capacity by voltage steps, and a fresh cell depletes differently than the aged pack it replaced. Run two full charge-to-depletion cycles through the camera body. By the third cycle, the percentage display tracks the actual charge state without sudden jumps.

My HDC-HS300 runs noticeably shorter on the replacement pack when recording in cold weather — is that normal?

Li-ion cells lose usable capacity below 10°C because internal resistance rises and voltage sags earlier under load. The HDC-HS300 draws combined current from the sensor, processor, and optical image stabilisation simultaneously, which amplifies that sag. Keep the spare pack in an inner pocket to hold it near body temperature before swapping. Once the cell is back above 15°C, capacity returns to the rated 7800mAh range.
