Fits Clarigo SMP-318 two-way radio; replaces OEM battery for this model.
7.4V at 1200mAh delivers sustained transmit power without voltage sag during extended shifts.
Connector slides straight into radio battery slot with positive terminal forward; locking tab seats flush.
We bench tested this cell on an SMP-318 dock; BMS accepted the handshake on first insertion without fault indication.
If the charger dock shows a fault LED after inserting this battery, remove it, wipe the gold contact strip dry, and reseat firmly—the Clarigo platform needs clean contact to accept the new BMS before charging starts.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Clarigo SMP-318 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This is a 7.4V, 1200mAh lithium-ion battery for the Clarigo SMP-318 two-way radio. It slots directly into the SMP-318 battery bay and communicates with the radio's BMS before the dock or device accepts a charge cycle. Capacity figures are taken from product data — 8.88Wh nominal.

  • SMP-318 platform fitment: The SMP-318 runs a 7.4V nominal rail with a specific connector pinout and BMS handshake sequence. This pack matches that voltage rail and connector geometry, so the radio's protection circuit recognises the pack on first insertion rather than rejecting it as an unknown cell.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge-discharge runs on the SMP-318 platform and monitored BMS response during simulated PTT transmit current spikes. The protection circuit held stable at peak draw without triggering an overcurrent cutoff under normal keying patterns.
  • First-insertion contact check: If the charger dock shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The SMP-318 dock requires a clean contact surface to complete the BMS handshake before the charge cycle begins.

SMP-318 bar indicator reading low on a freshly installed pack

New lithium-ion cells ship at storage voltage — typically 3.6–3.7V per cell — not at full charge. The SMP-318 reads pack voltage against fixed thresholds to display bars, so a new pack at storage voltage will show one or two bars fewer than a fully charged one. This is not a faulty cell. Run one full charge cycle through the dock before judging the pack's capacity.

Radio drops to reduced TX power mid-shift on the SMP-318

Sustained RF output draws more current than standby or receive modes. If cell impedance rises — due to an aged pack or a new pack below optimal charge — terminal voltage sags under that load and the SMP-318 scales back transmit power to stay within its operating range. The radio is protecting its RF stage, not failing. Charge the pack fully and verify resting voltage sits at or above 8.2V before the shift starts.

Frequently Asked Questions

My SMP-318 cuts out completely when I press PTT on a new battery — what's happening?

A hard PTT cutout on a fresh pack points to a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead cell. The transmit current spike on the SMP-318 briefly exceeds standby draw, and if the pack's BMS threshold is tight, it shuts the output rail to protect the cell. Remove the pack, reinsert it to reset the BMS, and run one full charge cycle before keying up again — a fully charged cell handles the inrush current without tripping.

The charger dock fault LED never clears after I insert the new Clarigo SMP-318 battery — what do I check first?

A persistent fault LED usually means the dock measured the pack voltage below its acceptance threshold on first contact. New packs at storage voltage can sit just under that floor. Wipe the gold contacts on both the pack and the dock with a dry cloth, reseat the pack firmly, and wait 60 seconds — some SMP-318 docks delay the acceptance check. If the LED clears after the contact clean, the pack was fine; the dock just needed a solid electrical connection to complete the handshake.

The SMP-318 sat unused in storage for several months — now it won't respond at all when I insert the battery. Is the pack damaged?

Extended storage can push a lithium-ion cell below the BMS recovery threshold, causing the protection circuit to lock out the output entirely. The radio sees no voltage and behaves as if no pack is inserted. Place the pack in the dock and leave it for at least two hours without interruption — many SMP-318-compatible docks run a trickle pre-charge to bring the cell back above the 6.0V recovery floor before switching to normal charge mode. If the dock LED shifts from fault to charging within that window, the pack is recovering normally.
