Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Motorola CP040 / CP140 Series — 7.5V Li-ion Replacement Battery (PMNN4254AR)
This 7.5V, 2600mAh lithium-ion battery replaces the original pack on Motorola CP-series portable two-way radios. It fits the CP040, CP100, CP100D, and CP140, along with 28 additional CP-series models that share the same voltage rail and connector format. Cross-references include PMNN4254AR, NNTN4851, PMNN4081AR, and over 30 other Motorola OEM part numbers.
- CP-series platform fit: These models share a common 7.5V architecture, identical battery bay dimensions, and the same BMS handshake protocol — which is why one pack covers the full range without a firmware or connector conflict.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through PTT transmit loads on the CP040. The BMS handled the current spike on key-up without tripping, and the charger dock accepted the new pack without a fault LED after a clean contact seating.
- First insertion into the charger dock: If the dock shows a fault LED on the first seating, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly — the CP-series dock requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before charging begins.
Why the CP040 drops to reduced TX power mid-shift on a new battery
A new cell ships at storage voltage — typically around 3.7V per cell, not full charge. Under sustained RF output, the radio draws peak current and the BMS reads the resulting voltage sag as a low-battery condition. The radio responds by stepping down transmit power to protect the pack. A full charge cycle before the first shift eliminates this — the cells need to reach operational voltage before the radio can sustain full TX output.
Bar indicator showing fewer bars than expected after fitting a new pack
The CP040 uses a voltage-threshold bar indicator, not a fuel gauge chip. A new cell at storage voltage reads lower than a freshly charged pack, so the radio displays one or two bars even though the battery is not depleted. This is not a fault with the battery. Charge the pack fully in the dock — once cell voltage climbs above the top threshold, the indicator will display correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions
My CP040 cuts out completely when I press PTT — new battery, fully charged. What's happening?
A hard cut on PTT is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a radio fault. The transmit current spike on the CP040 exceeds what the BMS allows if the cell temperature is low or the contacts have resistance from dirt or oxidation. Remove the pack, clean the gold contact strip on both the battery and the radio with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. If the cut persists at normal temperature with clean contacts, the BMS has latched — remove the pack for 30 seconds to reset it, then reinsert.
The charger dock blinks amber and never moves to green — pack is seated correctly. What's the fix?
A blinking amber fault that never clears means the dock is reading the pack voltage as below its acceptance threshold. This happens when a new battery has been in storage and the cell voltage has dropped below the minimum the dock will charge from a standing start. Remove the pack, wait 10 seconds, and reseat — the dock runs a fresh voltage check on each insertion. If the fault persists after two reseats, wipe the gold contacts with a dry cloth and try again; a resistive contact prevents the dock from getting a clean voltage reading.
Radio worked fine for two years, now the pack drains noticeably faster even after a full charge. Is the new battery faulty or is it the radio?
After two years of shift use, the original pack has likely lost significant capacity through shallow-cycle degradation — frequent top-up charges without full discharge cycles accelerate this on Li-ion cells. The replacement pack at 2600mAh will restore original capacity. If the new pack also drains fast, check for a stuck background scan or high-squelch sensitivity setting on the radio — both draw continuous current between transmissions and will reduce the effective capacity of any pack.
