Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Cobra 5370 / 6422 Alarm Sounder — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (GP60AAH6YMX)

This 7.2V 600mAh Ni-MH battery replaces the GP60AAH6YMX cell pack in Cobra 5370 and 6422 alarm sounders. It fits both the standard and alarm sounder variants of each model. Capacity figures come from the product data — 600mAh, 4.32Wh.

  • 5370 and 6422 sounder compatibility: Both models share the same battery bay dimensions and voltage rail. The GP60AAH6YMX cell pack fits either unit without modification to the connector or housing.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through siren activation loads on a 7.2V Ni-MH test rig. The cell pack held stable output voltage across multiple activation bursts without dropping below the minimum siren trigger threshold.
  • Tamper switch check after installation: Once the battery is seated, close the siren cover completely and confirm the tamper switch clicks into its engaged position. Outdoor Cobra sounders report a tamper fault to the alarm panel if the cover is not fully latched — some panels log this as a battery error, which causes unnecessary callouts.

Why the Cobra 5370 siren cuts out before the alarm cycle ends

The 5370 sounder draws a sharp current spike at activation to drive the siren tone. A Ni-MH cell that has not completed an initial charge cycle after a long shelf period cannot sustain that draw for the full alarm duration. The BMS interprets the voltage sag as a depleted pack and shuts the output early. Allowing a full 24-hour charge via the panel before the first alarm test resolves this in most cases.

Siren battery reading as low charge immediately after fitting a new cell

Ni-MH cells lose charge during storage — a new battery sitting in a warehouse for several months can arrive at 40–50% of rated capacity. The alarm panel reads state-of-charge on the first poll and flags it as low. This is not a faulty battery. Connect the panel to mains, leave the sounder on charge for 24 hours, then re-run a zone test. The panel should clear the low-battery event once the cell reaches 7.8–8.0V resting voltage.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Cobra 5370 sounder sounded for a few seconds during the alarm test then went silent — is the new battery faulty?

Not necessarily. Ni-MH cells shipped from storage can arrive partially discharged, and the 5370's siren draws a high current spike at activation. If the cell voltage sags under that load before the battery has completed its first full charge, the sounder cuts out early. Leave the new battery on charge via the panel for 24 hours, then repeat the alarm test.

The alarm panel is showing a tamper fault on the Cobra 6422 zone straight after I swapped the battery — what causes that?

The 6422 sounder has a physical tamper switch inside the housing that must be pressed by the closed cover. If the cover is not fully latched after reassembly, that switch stays open and the panel logs a tamper event. Remove the siren cover, reseat it firmly until you feel the latch click, and check that the tamper switch tab is fully depressed. The fault should clear on the next panel poll.

The Cobra 5370 battery seems to drain between annual tests even when the alarm system is armed and idle — why?

Ni-MH chemistry self-discharges at a higher rate than other chemistries, and outdoor temperature swings accelerate that. A siren mounted outside in a location with large seasonal temperature variation can lose meaningful charge over 10–12 months without any fault condition. If the panel flags a low-battery event before the next annual service, run a manual 24-hour top-up charge and confirm resting voltage reaches at least 7.8V before clearing the event.
