Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Comrex Access Portable2 — 7.4V Li-ion 7800mAh Replacement Battery
This 7.4V, 7800mAh Li-ion battery replaces the internal cell in the Comrex Access Portable2 portable audio codec. The Access Portable2 is a field broadcast unit used for live audio transmission and remote reporting. It draws steady current during active codec processing and RF transmission, so cell capacity matters more here than in intermittent-use devices.
- Access Portable2 platform fit: The Access Portable2 runs a 7.4V two-cell Li-ion architecture tied directly to the codec board and transmission circuitry. Voltage tolerance on this platform is tight — a cell that sags below the BMS cutoff threshold mid-transmission will drop the link without warning.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell under sustained codec-active and transmitting load. The BMS held charge acceptance cleanly across multiple cycles, and discharge curve stayed within the operating window through full depletion without false cutoffs.
- Field power management on the Access Portable2: When running this unit in IFB or contribution mode, avoid hot-swapping the battery mid-stream — the codec requires a clean boot sequence on power restoration to re-establish the transmission link correctly.
Why the Access Portable2 drops its transmission link before the battery indicator hits empty
The Access Portable2 does not use a simple voltage divider for its battery gauge. It maps remaining capacity against a discharge curve calibrated to the original factory cell. A replacement cell with a slightly different internal resistance profile will cause the BMS to read voltage drop as critically low before the actual cell charge is exhausted. The unit cuts transmission to protect the codec board. Running one full charge-discharge cycle after fitting the new cell lets the BMS recalibrate against the actual curve.
Access Portable2 powering on but immediately shutting down after battery replacement
This happens when the replacement cell ships in a low storage-state charge and the BMS reads the resting voltage as below the minimum boot threshold — typically under 6.0V on a 7.4V two-cell pack. The unit initiates a startup sequence, the codec board draws inrush current, voltage sags further, and the BMS trips. Connect the unit to the OEM charger before attempting to power on, allow it to charge to at least 7.2V, then boot normally.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Access Portable2 shows a full charge on the new battery but cuts out after a short transmission session — is the cell faulty?
It is not necessarily faulty. The Access Portable2 BMS maps its fuel gauge against the original factory cell's discharge curve, so a new cell with different internal resistance will appear full but trigger a low-voltage cutoff earlier than expected. Run one complete charge cycle — full charge to full discharge under active transmission load — and the gauge recalibrates against the new cell's actual curve. After that cycle, the cutoff point should align with true depletion.
The battery percentage on the Access Portable2 is jumping around erratically — drops 20% then jumps back up mid-session.
This is a discharge curve mismatch. The Access Portable2 estimates remaining capacity by reading cell voltage at intervals, and a new Li-ion cell has a flatter mid-range voltage curve than an aged original cell. The firmware interprets that flat curve as instability and recalculates sharply when current draw spikes during active codec processing. Perform two full charge-discharge cycles in the unit; the BMS smooths out the mapping after it has sampled the new cell's full voltage range. After two cycles the readout stabilises.
The Access Portable2 won't charge the new battery — the charging LED doesn't activate at all when plugged in.
A cell that arrives below approximately 5.5V on a 7.4V pack may be below the charger's activation threshold — the onboard charger circuit looks for a minimum voltage before it opens the charge path. Connect the unit to the OEM power supply and leave it for 15 minutes without pressing the power button; the charger runs a trickle pre-charge phase to bring the cell up to the activation voltage before switching to full charge current. If the LED activates after that window, the pre-charge worked and the cell is recovering normally.
