Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Concept VP4135 / VP4201 — 18.5V Li-ion Replacement Battery (42393246)
This is an 18.5V, 2200mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Concept VP4135 and VP4201 cordless stick vacuums with 5-pin connectors. It slots directly into the same bay as the original pack and communicates with the onboard BMS via the same 5-pin handshake. Capacity matches factory spec at 40.7Wh.
- VP4135 and VP4201 compatibility: Both models share the same 18.5V voltage rail, 5-pin connector layout, and BMS communication protocol — which is why a single replacement cell covers both. The pin arrangement carries cell status data, not just power, so the correct pin count matters.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge and discharge runs on the VP4135 platform. The BMS accepted the handshake cleanly, charge terminated at the correct cutoff voltage, and overcurrent protection tripped as expected under a simulated blocked-filter load.
- Dock charging discipline on the VP4135: Do not leave this vacuum sitting on the charging dock permanently. Continuous trickle charge on Li-ion packs accelerates capacity fade faster than normal charge cycles. Charge to full, then remove from the dock until the next use.
Cordless vacuum losing suction before the battery indicator reaches low
This happens when the motor is drawing more current than rated — usually because a partially blocked filter forces it to work harder to maintain airflow. The extra draw causes voltage to sag at the cell level, which the BMS reads as a low-battery condition even when charge remains. The vacuum loses suction power noticeably, but the indicator light hasn't caught up yet. Clean the filter first; if suction restores immediately, the battery was not the issue.
Motor cuts out during use then recovers after a short pause
This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. When suction is restricted — by a clogged filter, full dustbin, or carpet fibres blocking the inlet — the motor pulls sustained current above the BMS threshold and the pack shuts output off as a protection measure. After a brief rest, the BMS resets and the vacuum powers on again. Clear the obstruction, check the filter, and retest; if the cutout continues with no blockage present, measure pack voltage under load — it should hold above 15V during normal operation.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Concept VP4135 has noticeably less suction than it used to, but the battery indicator still shows charged — what's happening?
A partially blocked filter forces the motor to draw more current than rated, which causes cell voltage to sag under load even when the pack reads as charged. The BMS interprets that voltage drop as low capacity and reduces power output to protect the cells. Remove and clean the filter, then empty the dustbin fully before testing again. If suction recovers immediately after cleaning, the battery is fine — the filter was the cause.
My VP4135 battery fades noticeably faster after a few months — I charge it on the dock every night. Is the battery faulty?
Continuous dock charging is the most common cause of accelerated capacity fade on cordless vacuums. Li-ion cells held at full charge under a trickle current degrade significantly faster than cells that are charged only when depleted. This is not a fault — it is a charging habit that damages the pack over time. Charge only when the battery is low, remove it from the dock once it reaches full charge, and capacity fade will slow considerably.
The VP4135 won't start charging with the replacement battery installed — the charger light doesn't respond at all.
The VP4135 charger expects a valid BMS handshake across the 5-pin connector before it initiates a charge cycle. If any of the data pins are not making clean contact — due to debris in the connector recess or a slightly misaligned pack — the charger sees no handshake and stays dark. Remove the battery, inspect all five pins on both the pack and the vacuum for bent contacts or dust, reseat the pack firmly, and try again. If the charger light still does not respond, verify the charger output is present by checking for 19–20V DC at the charge port with a multimeter.
