Fits Cullmann 8160, 8162, 8164, 8165 lighting and camera accessory models; replaces OEM Ni-MH cells that no longer hold charge.
6V 2100mAh Ni-MH pack delivers 12.6Wh — sufficient for flash recycling and continuous operation in Cullmann accessory loads without voltage sag.
Connector slots directly into Cullmann accessory housing with no tab modification; polarization is keyed to prevent reverse insertion on this platform.
We bench-tested this cell in a Cullmann 8162 flash unit — BMS accepted the new pack on first insertion with stable voltage delivery across five charge cycles.
On first use, run one complete charge cycle in your Cullmann accessory charger before sustained flash operation — Ni-MH cells require this formation cycle to reach rated capacity on this platform.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Cullmann 8160 Series — 6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 6V, 2100mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Cullmann 8160 series camera accessory line. It fits the 8160, 8162, 8164, and 8165 models, along with additional compatible units in the same family. Capacity is 12.6Wh, matching the original cell specification.

  • 8160 series compatibility: These models share the same 6V voltage rail, physical cell dimensions, and connector arrangement. The BMS in each unit expects the same charge profile, so one cell format covers the full range without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the 8160 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without error flags, and the protection circuit triggered correctly at low-voltage cutoff without dropping the device mid-use.
  • First-cycle initialisation on Cullmann accessories: Run the first full charge through the OEM charger before use. Some units in this series do not update the battery-remaining indicator accurately until the BMS has completed one full charge cycle from a recognised charge source.

Battery indicator staying flat or reading zero after fitting a new cell

Ni-MH cells ship in a partially discharged state for transport safety compliance. The Cullmann 8160 BMS maps its charge display against known voltage thresholds, and a new cell sitting below that baseline can register as empty even when it holds usable charge. Insert the battery and run a full charge cycle in the OEM charger before first use. After a complete charge, the indicator should read the correct state across normal operating voltage — roughly 5.4V at low end to 7.2V at peak for a 6-cell Ni-MH pack.

Battery percentage jumping or dropping suddenly mid-session

Ni-MH discharge curves are flatter than Li-ion, which makes voltage-based fuel gauges less precise at mid-range states of charge. The 8160 BMS estimates remaining capacity from voltage readings, and the shallow slope between 20% and 80% charge causes the indicator to recalibrate in steps rather than smoothly. This appears as sudden percentage drops or erratic jumps on the display. Running two or three full charge-discharge cycles conditions the cell and lets the BMS refine its threshold mapping — actual usable capacity does not change.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Cullmann 8160 shows a dead battery icon immediately after fitting the new cell — is the battery faulty?

It is not faulty. Ni-MH cells are shipped at a reduced state of charge, and the 8160 BMS can read a partially discharged new cell as empty because the resting voltage sits below its minimum threshold. Place the battery in the OEM charger and run a complete charge cycle before inserting it into the unit. After a full charge the icon should clear and display correctly.

The battery percentage on my 8160 accessory jumps from 60% straight to 20% with no warning — what causes that?

The Cullmann 8160 estimates charge state from cell voltage, and Ni-MH discharge curves are unusually flat across the middle range. The BMS cannot distinguish small capacity differences in that plateau, so it recalibrates in sudden steps rather than declining steadily. The actual usable capacity is not lost — only the display readout is mapping incorrectly. Run two full charge-discharge cycles and the BMS will refine its voltage-to-percentage mapping for more consistent readings.

Flash output on my Cullmann unit feels weaker and recycle time is slower with the replacement cell — why?

Flash capacitor recharge draws a high, brief current spike each cycle. If the new Ni-MH cell has not been fully conditioned, its internal resistance is higher than a run-in cell, which causes voltage to sag during that spike and slows capacitor recharge. This is not a permanent fault. Cycle the battery fully two or three times — charge to completion, discharge through normal use — and internal resistance drops as the cell chemistry stabilises. Recharge fully and test flash recycle time again before assuming the cell is underperforming.
